How does gear score actually work?

Okey, so I´ve gotten to level 30 and started building my gear score. My question is, does it work in the same way as "light level" in Destiny? Where it boosts your overall stats and so on, or is it just a relative way of showing how good a gear piece is.

Example: Will there be any difference between two guns with the same dps and bonuses, but one of them has a higher gear score?

Basically yeah. The gear score is the item level of the loot more or less.

Higher gear score = higher number ranges on stat rolls.

Regarding your example question ... maybe. The higher gear score item has the potential to be better, but it all depends on the way the items were rolled. But if they both have the exact same numbers, then they are equal regardless of gear score.

204 gear score weapon blue prints have higher base damage than 163,182 gear score blue prints, the firearms, stamina and electronics requirements for unlocking talents are also higher than the requirements for182 weapons (in my experience anyway), there maybe a slight overlap between a 182 gs rolled weapon with the highest base damage possible for its type when compared to a 204 gs weapon rolled with the lowest base damage, i haven't taken any notice to be honest though, but what i do know is my dps went up by 25k when i replaced a 182 vector with a 204 vector

No, that video does not address anything concerning how gear score works.

So it´s basically a way of showing your general advancement, but it still comes down to the actual stats? So in theory a gear piece with better stats and lower gear score would still be better?
