    Making the player base happy

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertco.../#5dffc49d2e78

    Long vid, good stuff though.

    Hate that it's from Forbes, as they're usually trash withbgame news, but Ubi/MASSIVE should watch this.

    Originally over on the suggestions page, but more eyes over here , whoever the OP was there thanks!

    This needs more visibility. Bullet point for bullet point the Ubi design team needs to take a look at their game. I have been standing in front of Falcon lost for the last two hours trying to get myself to hit the match making button, and I just don't want to (yes one of those hours was while I was watching that video). It's not fun, it not rewarding, and its not immersive.

    From the story perspective we are supposed to feel good that we saved New York from being bombed to destroy a single APC. I played hard mode once. After that I really don't care. It's not like we actually saved falcon squad. Just bomb the entire facility into the ground and let me get back to farming the DZ for top level loot. Oh wait, the DZ doesn't have top level loot anymore.

    Diablo 3 is still terrible though. Just less so than it was at launch. I'll take less terrible over the crap we have now though.

    Considering it took Diablo 3 years to implement these changes, it doesn't really help the current situation. People are demanding that Ubi/Massive do now what took them years to iron out.

    @kyosji

    But they ironed it out already, all the division needs to do is follow suite in what they did. Or at least learn from them to not have made the same loot mechanic mistakes.

    @arsenic

    I'm not a big Diablo 3 player, but from the video there are a ton of similarities when it comes to systems. And we have now what Diablo 3 had in the beginning. And the problems that Diablo players had with it is what the main problem with the division is. The loot sucks for a loot game. The only thing that keeps me playing is that I play with friends and I'm a rare breed that enjoys the DZ.

    @final dragon

    Glad you liked it, it certainly does need more eyes.

    Aside from glitches/bugs/exploits the only problem the division has (in my eyes)is lack of varied endgame content and loot drops. If loot drops were more fun, the overall endgame would be better as well.

    While I am still watching the video, it almost feels like the guy is talking literally about The Division. His talking points are spot on.

    -Players farming boxes for materials similar to farming pots in Diablo III
    -It rains loot, but it's practically all garbage.
    -Randomness is king
    -Ultra difficult CM Incursion is what the average player wants
    -"Near misses" in drops
    -Prioritizing randomness and loot over fun and engaging gameplay
    -Trying to "fix" the Dark Zone, like trying to fix the Auction House
    -Randomness and extreme difficulty "forcing" players to find the most efficient means of playing.

    For fun to compare the number of results shown in the video for "Diablo Farming", I googled "The Division Farming" to see how many results I would get. I got over 9.5 million results! I'd say The Division is in worse shape than Diablo III when it first came out. Funny considering Ubi/Massive could've clearly learned from history to not repeat nearly the same exact mistakes in The Division.

    Aside from all the glitches and bugs I think the heart of the issue with this game is that it plays like a f2p title, not a £40 game. That's just wrong on all levels. f2p games are forever trying to entice you to spend money, so they whack the grind up then offer bonuses for subbing or for buying stuff. The Division has done the first part, but the only way to circumvent the mindless tedium of grinding and RNG is to glitch.

    Somebody started a thread saying they would happily p2w in this game just to circumvent the grind. It's got the f2p mentality running through it like a sausage in a hotdog.

    The part of that video that stuck out the most to me was this quote here, from about 48:50:

    "The other fear that we had as an item based game was that we were afraid to be too generous. Because everybody knows in a loot based game that people like loot based games because they keep coming back, right? You know, sort of drip feeding this awesome stuff to them and they keep coming back and they're having a good time.
    And so there was this fear of like "well if we give them everything they're going to stop playing." And I think the realization we made and that we firmly believe now is that it is much better for players to get all the loot and leave your game happy, because they will come back when you have an expansion or when you a do new DLC or patch, they will come back happy. If you're stingy and you're afraid of being too generous, they're going to leave frustrated. They're going to spend 3 hours not getting an upgrade and think "this game just wasted my time". So we really needed to be comfortable being generous."

    You're right.

    It's almost like they wanted to, but feared that sales would be hurt if it was p2w, but it was to far in development or something lol.

    I mean I love the game, it's just not the best it could be right bow.

    At least that would be offering a bone to the legitimate players. They would at least be given an option to catch up with the rest of the community. Because it might make even the slightest bit of sense, it will never happen.

    The grind is like a treadmill in this game. Due to a lack of final design choice this treadmill is like no other. There are multiple systems in place all at once. Only this treadmill has a forward incline, splits down the middle to incline to both sides at once and to add "suspense" they have some ******* come along every now and then to trip you.
