Beforehand,
I love this game, pre-ordered it upon its first announcement some 2 years ago. So far about 10 days and change playing time. Yes I'm an average player, and I don't care, there's always someone out there, way better than I'm.... So don't you think I'm whining here. But having a professional background in enterprise size application development, kind of nudged me to send some foot for thought...
A Dear Gamer Developer Letter:
So with now 10 days and change playing time on The Division, let me share a review of this game.
This game is EPIC! BUTBUTBUTBUTBUT! Sure how can a game be epic, when there's a but.
Roaming the streets of New York to scale, for me is epic. The player action is great, the story decent, the level of motivation to stay with it good... until you hit player level 30 in the open world, and DZ PVP level 50.
You could also call The Division, the hunt for the carrot, being a Donkey!! You're constantly short, wherever you look. Short on resources, short on abilities, short on cool weapons, short on Phoenix coins to afford cool stuff, short, short, short, so you run through the story to level up. The level increments are good to stay motivated, since you've got to start from zero XP when you gain a new level, and then some.
Once you hit the OW level cap of 30, you think, finally you're there, you can buy all the stuff you want, when you want and you can take names.... Well not so fast young grasshopper. For whatever reason, unknown to me, you still end up not getting the reward you think you should. Meaning, your rewards vendor will give you the level toys he gave you in the beginning, so since weapons, skills and mods increase in their power the higher level you've got, why would you want to put on a level 1 backpack, when you are at level 30? Exactly (game developer, wacky wacky, somebody home?) Where's the incentive?.
And so the hunt for the carrot continues. The DZ (DarkZone, or PVP area) is full of excitement, because you never know, if you bump in to an *******, who's jerking off over dropping you, usual spiel, you can try to fight all you want when solo, pow pow and two bullets later and you're down, mostly in a matter 3-4 vs 1!! Very mature *******, very mature!!. You loose about 10% ea on XP, DZ Money and access keys for the DZ, w/o you won't get good freebees (No, not the green or blue items, those are at best resources for parts at level 30!!.... But no risk no reward, now that I'm level 52, it works, to indulge in the "grind". After a while you get a routine, and foremost you stick to what you can do good, surviving in the lower DZ Zones 1 - 3, so as linear the XP levels are for players, so it goes with the DZ, 6 zones, Zone 1 "easy" which is a true understatement as a lower DZ level player to Zone 6, almost unbearably strong. You are level 30 and you will stay there, your enemies NPI's are level 32. You might think what 2 levels?, does this even matter? Well the developers found, it is awesome to make your enemies at least 4 levels stronger than you are, this way you EARN THE CARROT dearly. Meaning, it takes me in Zone 1 about 20 bullets from my SMG to drop a Pink level 30, this ups to 40 for a level 31 pink. In zone one you will spend about a 40 bullet mag on a 30 Yellow, at 31, you better be with a steady hand, else it takes you 1 1/2 mags to drop that sucker. Zone 6? Well I was blessed and dropped a few there, but with the expense of using almost 3 MAGs on one FOCKER!!!! So and again you're chasing the carrot, because you hope, when you reach DZ level 50, than you'll get the best tools of the trade....
The other day I survive a run through Zone 6, my chest swell to 5XL, that proud I was, FINALLY level 50, only to find out, that this bugger of a vendor, only does sell 4 different items in super high class, meaning you spend a lot of dough, whereas the lower level vendors sell about 10-12 items to choose from..... So you can imagine my face, when I saw that. Luck to my elite controller, that's a high priced item, else it would have met my wall, quite frustrating.
So what makes me keep coming back, well the carrot chase, in hope, that one day I'll have found the holy game grail of the carrot and finally stand a chance to the big players, apart from having met a few awesome guys, which is fun to run with. But the lack of a true incentive, to balance the race for the carrot, is out of balance plain and simple. How can one afford 300K DZ coins, when you get 400 to 500 per drop, when the NPI's drop? I've had nights in which the NPI's would do everything but dropping coins... slim picking I'd say. so you've to drop about 750 NPI's, or you go rogue 24/7, with the flip side of the coin, that you loose about 10% of coins, if you drop!!! So again, how silly do you game developer think I'm?
So this game is good, but leaves a few imperative things desired, hopefully in the coming updates, this will somewhat change.
Thanks for reading, this write up.
There is no story in this game beside fragments of informations about very little part of strangers " faith " in echos , beside that there is very very very little to NO story at all , and this was a disapointement for me ... i would have prefered by far a " mass effect " like aproach where you can speak with peoples and influence the world around you ... at least slightly ... but NO they didnt do that ..
gameplay is good . pvp is fun while having tons of issue in particular sync issue , latency issue , and skills / ability imbalance
I enjoy the gameplay very much , i despite many aspect of the game and well the bugs are killing it for me in many aspect , Still CANT UNLOCK MY MEDICAL WING AT 100 % AND UBISOFT AS NEVER ANSWER MY TICKETS UNLESS IF ITS TO CLOSE IT WITH NO ANSWER AND MASSIVE AS NOT ADRESS IT AS WELL
AS FOR THIS PART YOU REALLY PROOVE THAT YOU DONT PLAY ROGUES AND AS NEVER PLAYED ROGUE LIKE EVER !Originally Posted by MTheSarge Go to original post
Stop making claims about rogues status you cant back up with factual evidence , you dont loose " 10 % " of what you earn while going rogue you can mostly have pure loss with NO gains what so ever .. and this is how most peoples rogue end up to be like ...
Play rogue and video record it in an unedited footage ... or stream yourself playing rogue it will be even better and then we will see how well you perform there .. iam pretty sure acording to your sayiing that you will only Loose money over and over and over and over and loose from 2 to 4 level in an hours going rogue non stopjust saying
No I don't go rogue on purpose, and how come when I've 23K DZ Currency and the game says I've lost 2300 being dropped by a rogue, that this isn't factual 10%. (10x 2300 is ? exactly..... just saying!!)
I kind of felt that you as a party pooper wont get the points I wanted to make. I play my play, you play yours. Factual! You seem to live in my account, else I have little comprehension how your ASSUMPTION is working out for you! Since this isn't the case..... narrow's it down to plainly being ignorant and opinionated..... YOU GO ROGUE and have fun while at it, it's not my complain nor my take. As one of the raiders in the open world keeps repeatedly saying, NO RISK NO REWARD........ But I guess you haven't heard of the concept of food for thought, haven't you?
I'll thank you for grinding out those coins when I come and go rogue on you. Fact!Originally Posted by MTheSarge Go to original post
lol you dont undertstand how it work to the slightess ...Originally Posted by MTheSarge Go to original post
Prepatch the rogue were dropping a Huge % of what they had on themself wich if the rogue had 100 000 he could have drop up to 20k + wich was unfair and stupid and the one who kil that " rogue " would be able to cash in insane amount of money just by not going rogue ever .. and the players who dare to go rogue were so blatantly punish that at some point there was NO ROGUE anymore beside hackers ...
the change they have introduce as not included any wipe of the bank peoples had prepatch , and NPC were dropping more money ... in the change rogue and non rogue alike drop amount of DZ$ who corespond to a % of the items you can buy with DZ credits thats all , beside that
Rogue loose at least 3X time more xp as soon as theyu die compare to what they are rewarded with if they ever survive a " manhunt " wich is a 1 vs 23 or 2 vs 22 or 3 vs 21 or 4 vs 20 .. wich is highly unfair in terms of numbers and have high chance to be kill ... wich mean loosing money , loosing 3X time the Xp they will be rewarded with if they ever survive and the timers for the rogue stop everytime they are engage in combat ... and thats if they ever reach the manhunt , if they dont but are lets say rogue 3 and then at the very end of their timers are forced by non rogue players to defend themself they will get a rise of their timer agains and that indefinitly if they dont get the manhunt status quick enough ....
So yeah you dont know what playing as rogue is like and you speak out of your own frustration and incompetance in pvp , wich make your statement emotional and not rational ... wich make your conclusion wrong and not reflecting the reality ...
If I go rogue for 90 seconds and die I lose 5 keys, ~5500 XP and several thousand DZ funds. If I go rogue level 3 I lose around 5 keys, ~15000 XP and even more thousands of DZ funds
If I survive a manhunt, which is roughly 5 minutes, I will earn 17000 XP and get ~7500 DZ funds....you do not want to know what I lose if I am in manhunt status and die....but it runs somewhere in the 20k XP loss.
