You can't have a free lunch!if you want SH3 to look like the E3 video you want an ATI x800Pro.

Does Nvidia make a comporable card? I like sticking to Nvidia chipsets just because they aremore or less the "benchmark" outthere...and everything seems to run with them

I'd get a GF FX 5700 or an ATI Radeon 9600XT at least, better go for a 9800Pro. They're quite inexpensive right now, I've seen several below 200 Euros. You won't make anything wrong with a 9800Pro.

    If its DirectX 9
if it has 6 Pixel Pipelines
if it has 128mb or 256mb

those should make for smooth sailing
so a 5700 would be good but you can get 5900's for pretty good prices now as Willey mentioned, the x800 and FX6800 have really hacked the prices of older cards off at the knees

BTW what you're thinking of there ingsoc41 is the FX6800 Ultra its the comporable card to the x800 Pro
But beware, those cards are BIG and use ALOT of power and they are expensive, very expensive

Make sure you look at your PC first for an AGP slot (a brown slot slightly smaller than the PCI slot which PCI is white). When you shop online and you have an idea of what you want goto both pricewatch.com and nextag.com to see what all is available for the lowest price-you will be amazed at the costs. Get a card that is 256meg or higher and get it with DDR memory (I think thats fastest now) I personally have no problems with Gforce cards. I got GF FX 5700. Works wonders for me. Remember if your changing over from the PCI video card to reset your BIOS to have the AGP slot enabled. Also remember that AGP cards seem to seat "twice" it feels like it snapped in the brown slot of the board but give it a good visual because it may not seat all the way the first time.

please consider that SHIII is maybe very cpu intensive (complex damage model, physics, dynamic environment etc).

so if you want to buy a good graphic board only for SHIII you better wait until the demo is out. then you will see what you get with your rig and what you might need.

personally i am interested rather in features than in eyecandy.
