    How you doing?

I am dead already at 3% actually meant to start first play with survivor on second chance but hit the start new game button too soon.

Playing on expert as is now my habit I met my doom outside Tensays cave. Before going in to talk with the Shaman for the first time I got a bit bold with three camped Udam nearby. Did not help that night fell almost at the same moment when I ran out of arrows in my quiver and was dodging around behind some rocks. Anyway with my initial ranged assault having proved underwelming I strove to to distract the alerted Udam by throwing stones to buy some time and it almost worked but one fellow flanked me. This is where I lost it by opting to try to get rid of him quickly via throwing my singular spear before he did the same - he proved quicker - and it was all over for me.

Was not even really interested in dealing with the Shaman that soon in the game as I did not fancy facing up to the wolves yet. My feet just carried me in that direction and having been doing OK I got a bit overconfident with those three Udam - now I know better. Survivor on expert scary stuff really ramps up the tension.

Only just gave sayla her green leaves and i'm already annoyed with the .3 seconds it takes to craft arrows... bleeeh... Then to see that we can't even get the crafting 8 arrows at a time skill? dude... this mode may not be for me...

vic_must_play, you may be interested to see the "immersive bow reticule" option, makes it so that the reticule fades away unless you aim or draw an arrow... wish it'd been that way all along...

Spotted that change mentioned - even before the patch came out - so it was one of the first settings I hit much better in my opinion than the old cross hair. Have more HUD at the moment than before - returning to reticule use - and keeping the health bar up for the moment as you really need to keep an eye on that one when you have only two or three bars between you and the hard place.

Just managed to unlock the three bars of health in my second chance game and I am very glad to have that extra bit of cushioning protection. Somehow even knowing I now have a second life has not reduced the fear of dying for me.

Finding the new crafting mechanic is gonna take some getting used to for me, my fingers keep forgetting to keep the button pressed down right up to the completion of the process. More than once released early and had to start crafting a club or a spear all over again, under pressure being stalked by an Udam or whatever almost panic inducing.

    Holy ****, that's how I'm doing

As I posted a little while ago in a different thread, I realized I was not ready for the full Permadeath Challenge

I started off confident and slow, really pacing myself for what I knew would be a total nightmare of a game mode (in the best way possible).

While searching for Tensay, night fell upon me. I saw what I thought was a standing torch in the ground near his cave, so, with the intention of igniting my club for a light source, I sprinted towards it....

....and directly into 3 Udam huddled around a fire. Naturally, this scared the **** out all 4 of us and their cries made my testes retreat up into my throat, and, in an ill-advised attempt to flee the area, I ran directly off a cliff to my death.

So I sat there, stunned by my own cowardice and stupidity, and restarted a game with Second Chance enabled.....and I've been very content so far; I've just encountered Ull and destroyed the bone trees and I haven't died yet which is comforting. Mind you, I'll probably pull my hair out and try it again 4-10 times before getting it done.

Then I tackle the Permadeath Challenge...dusdus

Dead again on second chance expert - man it can be unforgiving especially in the story missions they are just terrifying.

Lost one life in the attack on the village survived the follow up although at one point down to one club with no health showing on my bar and no food left to eat, White Wolf dead too. With my in game heart hammering away and the screen throbbing its near death thing I had to run away for a time mid combat to scavange desperately for some meat before retuning to the fight to kill two remaining Udam. With only two bars of health restored and a couple of arrows I amazingly survived that ordeal but...

Sadly on the way back to the village I ran into what at least felt akin to multiple Udam spawns - so much for less frequency of foes. Could hear some Wenja too but did not see them. Weakened and depleted I tried to stay on the edge of these actions with the aim of picking off anyone that got too close to me and eventually getting safely away. I managed to get two more or was it three kills that messy action is already a bit blurry as I had to leave the bodies behind as they dropped it seemed too risky to stand around and loot. My hit and run tactics were sort of working but then one Udam got far too close. I ended up facing him down with my club but he moved as I swung and I missed badly. Somehow my wild swing put him out of sight. Instant panic ensued as I tried to find him again - result I was swinging blindly to fend him off - no surprise he avoided my ill aimed blows and hastily administered my death. Lesson - panic kills - and once again I shoulld have known better. Why did I opt to fight rather than just sneaking away and returning to the village to better recuperate? Maybe misplaced pride or bad habits from playing earlier games wth far more health and skills. Anyway I perished at a little over 9 percent and I will admit to feeling a little frustrated this time around at the thought of going through the whole long start part again.

I think to make survival mode dying part more fun, it might have been an idea to let you skip what is more or less a prolonged tutorial sequence at the start of the game by giving you the option to begin straight at the village site when playing Permadeath - but maybe you will all disagree.

Considering playing for a while without Permadeath - just to get away from the fear of having to do that beginning sequence too soon again. I think the early mission requirement to unlock skills really push you to the limit at least on expert as for example you need to get Tensay before you can even consider unlocking more effective skills. Maybe I am not hardcore enough to be stubbornly playing expert as I feel I could have used something like the knife throw takedown very badly. The village attack something of a nightmare that I just did not feel ready for the same with the directly following Bone Tree mission.

Live and learn well actually die and learn - walk free.

Can you skip cutscenes? I'd like to try the whole permadeath thing myself in a few days, but I can already predict I'll probably give up after 1-2 tries if I need to do the entire intro sequence every damn time.

^^^Bit late replying as you noticed Rickvs64 once dead it is start a new game intro and all. Hopefully this will be adjusted down the line.

Now trying survivor second chance on normal to see if I can avoid a too early death whilst still retaining a bit of edge - maybe return to expert in a later game.

I'm going to wait until we know what the reward for beating the game on survivor/expert/permadeath is before even considering ever doing that again. Unless it is something very significant, it will not be worth the frustration and time that would take to do...

    Survival mode, Expert, Permadeath test

    Hi Guys,

I've meditated a long time on starting the game on permadeath mode, then just decided to run on Survival mode, Expert diff, but with Permadeath off, for testing, how can I fare without dying.

The pace of my game is slowed down, I'm very cautious, Almost always crawling. I'm now at 5,5%, unlocked the white wolf, which is abig help, and have already 3 life.

My concerns about Permadeath is exactly that very reason, that you can die due to a bug too. In my previus game I died 2 times due to texture bugs.
Also there are some wide scale combat events, like where you need to protect 3 shrines against waves of enemies. Those could be very challenging this way.

Othervise this is my favourite game by far. Its an excellent work, gongrats for Ubi, and hoping for some more additions for it in the future.

My hints for those who are brave enough to test Perma Death:

-Its worth to moving in crouch mode, heading from bush-to -bush, or rock, whatever.
-If you ocassionally stops for a few seconds during crouching and look arond, you will hear the sounds of various things around you surprisingly many times (noises of Deer/Goat/Dholes/Talking Udam). I ambushed many times this way.
-Never run towards something you thought safe. Actually its not safe...
-Its worth to move with the club equipped for many reasons: if you get ambushed by a jaguar, you can immediatelly punch it and heal while it runs a circle. Also could light it up by fire to scare away some predators if needed.
-Avoid open field and cliff edges, those Eagles are annoying as hell. If I hear ther cries I used to stand in the open with a spear ready for thrust and focusing it, till it start to dive at me, the just release the spear thrust when its almost on my head... That it for the eagle...
-After start try to unlock Tensay asap, and stay extremely careful until you get your taming ability.
-Be opportunistic all the time. For example if I find 2 turtles by a river, the I eat 2 rations of meat to recover some stamina, then kill the turtles for 2 maets recovering my resource loss
-If you need to kill predators, its most comfortable during night time at a Bonefire, or Campfire. Just sit the edg of the fire, scanning for glowing eyes in the night. An arrow between them and you are ok. Bears are a different story by the way. My strategy for the is avoiding, till I get a decent pet.

Best wishes guys, just keep up, and careful

    Two things:

    1) This guy cares about all of you lol - follow his advice!

    2) The highlighted sentence had me roaring, because it's so true that's it funny and not funny at the same time.
