Far Cry Primal Review | More Of The Same ... Sort Of

After Many Hours of play I believe I am capable of reviewing of this game. For my full in-depth review click on the link : https://youtu.be/A4et_rg4Gl0
but here's the long and short of it its definitely a far cry game and you can tell but in my opinion all the elements that made me love the game are gone e.g. guns and the customization in them

Given there's a gazillions games out there, modern shooters with guns and customisation (yawn), it's hardly a loss IMO.

Given that we've had FC 3 and FC 4 with guns, and both fairly samey, and somewhat moribund, I'd say it was a fine decision on Ubisoft part to give the green light to go ahead with Primal.

Theyre making FC5 so I wouldn't worry - I'm sure it will have plenty of guns.

My beef with this game is that it wasn't given enough time to be fully realised. A melee focused combat system and no block is just one of the signs, of which this game has many, that Ubisoft gambled with Primal but weren't willing to go all the way. The game just feels underdeveloped, and could of been so much more.

That said, I've loved every bit of it.... It's just a shame, I could of been more.

There are a few modern games with guns & customization sure, mostly CoD & Battlefield, but when you think about a modern FPS NOT set in a militarized war? Not so much, FC is pretty much the only one left, and that makes it unique. Personally I'm very much over the CoD's of the world, but FarCry remained something I could get my modern FPS fix with. It is the ONLY modern FPS open world game, that makes it unique enough to stand out and ditching that IS a loss...

Pffft, please, there is still plenty of potential with the modern day premise, it's just in Ubi's hands to actually try some unique things with it. They're clearly willing to take risks with the franchise, so my thought is take some risks within the modern day setting on a narrative & gameplay side of things rather than blasting us all the way back to the stone age and then not trying anything drastically different aside from the setting.

Uh, source? How do you have this massive exclusive information? There is definitely no official announcement of such things....

Most of this I can agree with. Melee combat specifically left much to be desired...

I have to disagree with the OP, I am very gald they made Primal. Sure it is not perfect and would probably as suggested have benefitted from additional development time - I believe especially to make its UI and mechanics - as Primal as the setting - and more in keeping with the period but...

Overall it is a game I have found very much worth playing and even - replaying - which means it is offering me something worthwhile and I do not seem alone here in thinking this. In addition Primal gives Ubi a bit of timely breathing space to hopefully create a deeper, broader more innovative next Far Cry when returning to the modern era which I think remains likely. As a side benefit currently Primal is just different enough that it does not supercede FC4 in my mind. I find I can play Primal and enjoy it then load up FC4 and still enjoy that one too for different reasons.

Sometimes a bit of creative space is needed too or any team and project can go a little stale. I have a sneaking suspicion that if Primal did not exist and Ubi went instead straight to a modern FC5 it would really have risked being more of the same to the point were the sameness could have damaged the franchise. There seems to have been a lot of hate out there for the AC annual release sort of thing and fears that Far Cry might go that way too. Whilst to state the obvious it cannot be easy to keep any series both recognisable and true to itself without it all becoming too much of a formula. I think the UI in Primal however proves that Ubi has been suffering a bit of creative constipation with FC and need to get the ideas moving again. With so little innovation in mechanics set thousands of years ago I can only speculate that absolutely nothing would have moved forward at all if a modern FC5 had been the next one squeezed out.

Primal as at least something a little different due to its setting has at least got the developers listening to their community and perhaps thinking bigger thoughts about the greater creative possibilities within the future potential games. Ideally the next one may now be a far cry beyond being just a clone of the very commercially successful FC3, it is apparently true that sometimes success tests the mettle even more than failure.

I will say I am glad they didn't pump out a modern FC5 in the time they made primal, but I hope they're working on a modern set FC5 this whole time as well and really trying to push things forward with it. I think they've definitely found at least the skeleton of the best formula for the franchise, but I think they should work to put the various pieces together in new ways with the next one. They can have a mechanic to unlock map & quest info, just don't make it the same as FC3/4 with towers and such. Obviously I don't think anyone wants to do away with outposts, but add something to that. I think one aspect they could definitely improve on would be side-quests. They should have multiple narrative driven side-quests that you actually care about, rather than mostly one-off repeated missions that result in trivial reward...
