I saw 3 lions today across the river from where you get the one armed crafting guy, acting more as a pride than fighting each other, but the fact that there were two Udam and several yaks probably helped with that, not to mention the lay of the land where the AI controlled animals sometimes get confused... Strange that since this topic first appeared I have seen more behavior like this out of cave lions than in the past, unless its just me looking for it now.
Considering the cave lions seem to have the exact same scripting and sounds as the tigers from FC4, I feel like you're just looking for it now.Originally Posted by Thorbert910 Go to original post
I was the only person who voted "no" to the poll, but only because there wasn't a "sometimes" option. While I absolutely love the idea of lions hunting in prides, they don't always hunt in prides. They hunt in prides when they take down larger animals for strength, and occasionally hunt in prides for smaller, swifter animals to confuse them.
So, in my opinion, if they were going to add this to an update, I would ask that the lions occasionally hunt in prides to take down large animals like Bears, Cave Bears, and Mammoths but I would suggest leaving the smaller animals to fend for themselves.
The reason I say this is because a large animal like a Cave Bear or Mammoth would present the same amount of danger as 2-3 lions, so if you want to hunt that mammoth, maybe you can wait until some lions take it down for you, then scare them off with fire and spears or take the risk and fight them, or take the risk and fight the mammoth yourself.
(Mammoth, Cave Bear, Bear = 2-3 lionesses). That way you can still hunt lions, jaguars, dholes, wolves, and leopards in their respective groups without worrying about other packs swooping in to make things difficult.
That's just my opinion, but I honestly do enjoy the idea. Su! Su!
I have to disagree with you when you say that lions should only "sometimes" hunt in groups. Lions don't just live in prides for increased successful hunting chance, they need these family groups to stay alive in an extremely hostile environment, and the paleolithic was no different. It was arguably even harsher than the African savanna. Modern lions need prides in order to be able to fend off hyenas, wild dogs, leopards, and when hunting in riparian areas, crocodiles. Lone lions do not do well on the African savanna, and they don't survive. In the paleolithic, Cave lions would have had other dangerous animals to contend with, including all the animals you see in FC Primal, but also other species (Smilodon, Homotherium, cave hyenas, various species of bear, various human species, various species of modern felines where their ranges overlapped).Originally Posted by RogueSurvivor Go to original post
Lets put this in perspective; Having 3 or 4 cave lion buddies backing you up when you're fighting off a Cave bear that is trying to take your kill makes more sense than taking him on by yourself. But to add to this. you're fighting him off because you're going to waste much more energy hunting another animal, and you're not that good at hunting alone. That means you need family groups even more than modern lions if your hunting prowess is similar.
Modern lions almost always hunt in prides as it increases their kill rate substantially, even when hunting smaller animals. They are much worse at hunting animals alone compared to other cat species. Cave lions were larger than modern lions and lived with much larger prey animals. The fact that they were hunting animals many times their own size (much larger than average African lion prey size) means that they must have relied on hunting in groups just as much as modern lions.
The whole point of them being in prides is so they aren't easily dispatched and hunted, they were among the most clinical and cunning group hunters alongside mankind. It's meant to be difficult.
That certainly would be a challenge haha but fun either way! I'm not terribly passionate about it.Originally Posted by mate926 Go to original post
