The failure of this game proves that subscription based MMO is the only way to go

Paying all your money up front never ends well. The AAA gaming industry has proven this time and time again. In fact, it actually makes sense to milk and dump, it saves money on server space.

Let's face it, Ubi and Massive aren't stupid, they know the blatant FU that is the recent set of changes is going to drive people away because they are taking something away from players, but it doesn't affect potential new players, players who haven't paid up yet.

The only games that have a real incentive to keep their player base happy are monthly subscription based ones, like WoW. Both F2P and pay up front (with no microtransactions) have proven unsuccessful. F2P is basically just P2W till everyone burns out, and pay up front is just investing all your money in marketing and then clearing out the old crop to make server room for a new crop of suckers.

So, I hope we all learned our lesson.

The problem with the sub model is that quite a few companies have taken the sub money and not delivered much monthly, instead charging extra for expansions. The idea behind this DLC system is that you pay for the content itself when it's finished so thay have incentives to make it.

I still belive they want to sell as much as possible of the DLCs.

This game is not a failure yet, first let us see how it goes after the release of the free updates and the expansions.
Its a lill bit early to say, the game is only a couple a weeks old...

I didnt pre order but bought it a week or so after launch, after a week ingame i decided to buy the season pass.
I hope they listen to the playerbase and make changes along the way so this game will have a long life.

    I think u are a lill impatient...

This is not an MMO though.

As for MMO's I do prefer subscription ones like WoW & Final Fantasy Realm Reborn but I have to say Black Dessert Online is a very great one and is just buy to play with no subscriptions, there is a cash shop but it's hardly P2W.
I used to play RIFT too, had it since launch and was subscription based but then after 2 years and some time it became F2P and then I quit it because the cash shop that was introduced when it became F2P turned out to be P2W and that's also the reason I don't play F2P MMO's.

Guild Wars 2 is alright but the cash shop in that game while not being 'fully' P2W goes close to that direction, this however is not the case with Black Dessert Online.

Anyway aside from all the above I do not understand how this is relevant for The Division, the Incursions update is actually a 'free' update that players without Season pass will also have access too. If this game would have been subscription based I would not play it (mainly because I already have sub based game).
I like this game so far ... Online RPG with shooting gameplay it's perfect for me.

Is this all in response to the change in crafting materials? Because unless something has changed in the paid model, you still have to farm for materials to be able to craft.

Are people simply forgetting that there are crafting material "nodes" in each district that can be farmed every two hours and with a high scavenging attribute can yield 3-4 mats ranging from green to yellow? Add in fast travel to safehouses and realistically you are likely getting more materials than DZ + deconstruct.

I mean i really am confused. Everyone wants a plethora of content but no one wants to put in any effort to acquire the gear they desire. It's the good old "have my cake and eat it too" conundrum. Do you want easy loot or do you want things to do/work for?

    "FREE Update"
    AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAAHAA

Boy is it easy to milk the plebs. Got news for you bro, you've already paid for the "FREE" update, it just wasn't complete at launch so they're giving to us now as if it's something extra.

Monthly subscription services don't work on consoles, its been proven players wouldn't pay $15/£10 per month on top of their PS+/XBL sub and internet bill.
