Hey, fellow agents, it is time. . . the progress report for the story has been UNLEASHED!
TRANSCRIPT!
I finally completed the missions, took me a bit, but, If I was going to describe it in a quick sentence, it would be : What did I just do?
You see, often times, I felt, if I did a mission once, I had already done the rest. From the very first mission, you've experienced all the game has to offer for the main story. Often times you will find yourself doing the repetitive things known as turning something on, and defending, picking something up, and defending, rinse and repeat, then, when you got to the end you would fight a yellow bullet sponge enemy, who, did nothing really all that surprising, and this would all be done in beautifully done environments. But besides the stunning visuals, it often felt a rehash of the very first mission. The boss fight would be okay if it wasn't the same boss over and over and over. They are literally the same boss models Like, it was hilarious, because, I honestly think they have more dog models in the game than character models. And to me, that just left and unsatisfying taste in my mouth wishing for more. Because it basically means you don't get any fresh change of pace when grinding through on the harder levels besides a change in scenery.
And I now know there are three different factions in this game, the Rikers, the Cleaners, and these guys who look cool, yet seem to side with the rogue agents? (lmbs) And, I know nothing about them, besides that fact that I think I killed all their bosses. But, honestly, I have no idea. Even at the end I after the end boss I had no idea what I did or why or who I killed. The missions didn't offer much clarity besides a quick debrief before you get there. And sometimes I wish there was more reading in this game, so I could honestly understand the story, because, for those who listened, and sat down and gathered all the echoes and collectibles told me their is actually an amazing story here-- hidden, beneath a wall. And that's what pains me the most. The division is one of the most beautiful games I've played in a long time, yet I have no idea why I'm doing anything in it. And some people can blame me for not paying attention, or not gathering the echoes and collectables, but you can't. Because, to me, as a writer, and a novelist You can never blame the person who is reading your material or playing your game for not understanding your story. Because they've done their job. They showed up and played the game. So A casual gamer should NEVER have to look deeper and do the hard work to discover what is there, it should be laid out for them. They are there for an experience, and this experience wasn't well done. And the stuff I picked up, wasn't all that great. Did anyone at Ubisoft ask themselves how dumb this sounds? The main story goes like this : I'm killing people who are bad for humanity, who are killing people who can kill humanity. Isn't this all a bit ironic? Redundant?
I believe personally, from the way the story is designed it seems they tried to salvage it and change it from what it originally was. I truly believe they cut it up and tried to fix things, to make it fit the new game after new game after new game in the long three years of development, that at the very end was a poor tasting cake.
There are just so many questions, I could sit here and talk about this story all day, but I won't, in the end, I do believe this story was a big let down and one thing this game will not be remembered for.
