    The Future of Far Cry

I think the next Far Cry should be based on the American Civil War and you can choose at the beginning to be the Union or the Confederation.

Or not, for a start I found it good to play as a non American in Far Cry for a change with Primal. In addition FC is not about participating in a full on war as others have pointed out. I am forced to agree it is more about landing up in an exotic location, suffering some profound culture shock, and having to survive your new experiences against the odds usually whilst foiling some charismatic villian.

Although the past is indeed another country culturally, even as a European the Amerixan Civil War is so saturated on TV and Cinema as subject matter that it is not half foreign or exotic enough to me to provide the deep sense of dislocation and exploration provided so wonderfully by Primal.

I did suggest a World War One time period - at one point - also in review a somewhat media saturated period, but my thinking was to set it in Africa and before the war with the politcal tensions simply adding an extra layer of atmosphere to the background - possibly going with the anti poaching storyline previously mentioned. Ultimately it would still be a fish out of water scenario with a foreigner dropped into an alien to them world. However Ijudgiing on replies perhaps a return to the original format of almost present day style Far Cry should happen next in part to placate previous fans not taken with Primal.

I can see the point of some old Far Cry fans who fear Primal might start a trend that kills off what they previously loved most about the series. Whilst seemingly opening the doors to weirder Far Cry experiences via time travelling I think the next one ought to ground the series again in the present.

As other peopole have already pointed out on the forum paraphrasing: Ubisoft puts out Assassins Creed for the history buffs. I am happy for Primal to be a glorious exception that may result in other later glorious exceptions further down the line but Ubi should continue to support those players that have previously stuck with the series too - that seems only fair to me.

Bleeech, really? For one thing, AC3 covered roughly the same time period already, I doubt many at Ubi would want to revisit that so soon. Secondly, as a first person game it would be terrible using era appropriate weaponry, with 45 second reload animations not exactly making for compelling gameplay... there are a bevy of other reasons this would not be a fun setting for the franchise, ignoring the main ideology that they take place in the lesser known / visited parts of the world for one. I think the title of your thread is closer to a better idea taking the game into the future, that would be a helluva lot more fun than a first person civil war game ever could be....
