I can't find this question being asked before, but if it has, then sorry.
Basically, is there any weapon that will one-shot a heavy? It annoys me that, when they are the only ones left in an outpost, if they happen to turn round at the wrong time and see you, even if you manage to get the take-down in, it ruins the 'undetected' bonus. (this didn't seem to count as detected in previous games, as long as other enemies were not alerted, i.e. if you got the takedown in without being seen, but it seems to count in this game) I know that other enemies (if any are left) are not being alerted, because they would go to the alarm-horns.
Not sure there is a one shot solution to dealing with the heavies in Primal. The fully upgraded spear - when thrown - ignoring takedowns is probably as good as it gets. You certainly cannot rely on any of the bows. Simple fact is that Primal is more difficult than FC3 and FC4 for stealthing outposts unless you manage to bomb the crud out of them with the Owl from cover and probably send in an animal too.
Thanks for the info. I'll just stick to my 'leave them till last' method, and hope they don't turn around. Like i say, though, it shouldn't count as 'detected' just because they manage to see the knife enter their own doomed body. I do enjoy the difficulty though. In 3 and 4, I always mean to do it with knives, arrows, stones and tooth picks, but then get impatient and take everyone out from 500 miles with the big sniper. At least this stops me being lazyOriginally Posted by vic_must_play Go to original post![]()
Agreed. Spears to the torso and sting bombs are the best ways to take out the big guys quickly. I always send the owl in to take everyone else out one by one (I have the upgraded cool down, so I don’t have to wait as long between kills) before I even think about how to deal with them. I use the owl for my bombs as well so I don’t have to get too close.Originally Posted by vic_must_play Go to original post
The cave bear is also hugely effective against them if you only have one or two left after clearing out everyone else.
One simple solution to keeping them from turning round at an inopportune time would be to throw a rock in front of them so they go investigate that and then you've a much wider window to get the drop on them....Originally Posted by Markaccus Go to original post
Speaking of rocks does anyone else find the sling makes using stones for distraction a little harder. Whilst allowing you to reach further I find the way it powers up and the flatter trajectory forces you to expose yourself more to view than the lobbed stone. Ideally I think they should have given us both via an option to change over in the same way that you change from one bow to another.
I really like the sling, I don't think it makes it any harder myself. You just have to aim it more to the ground rather than aiming higher than where you want it to land. I love that it's become a multi-purpose tool with viable uses in neutralizing enemies, In FC3/4 that was seriously a whole button used just for making enemies look another direction, at least now you can actually eliminate weaker enemies with it as well...
Continuing to veer off topic a little it is good that the sling can acts as a last ditch ranged fallback weapon. Also it is a fine additional weapon because it would not be a burdensome inventory item and it makes sense that you always have some ammo for it as pebbles and small stones ought to be easy enough to collect from the environment as you go sometimes even as wastage from other crafting. I love it when a little real world logic and game mechanics work together rather than collide in sad disbelief - to me that is what good game design is all about.
Eh, theres already that other poll topic about heavies, we can evolve this one into a sling discussion, haha.... the sling and spears are actually 2 things I'd love to see mixed with guns in a modern FC game... loved the juxtaposition of old meets new with the bow in FC3/4 and would like to see it taken further with those...Originally Posted by vic_must_play Go to original post
FC has always used some period arms such as the Brritish Army issue First World War Revolver and so on and that is a good approach as some designs are classics that hold up including the 1911 automatic. I alway liked the way they treated arrows too - as ultra silent kills - seemingly even harder to detect that a sniper round which no matter how suppressed when shot still hits something somewhere even if you miss your target with a probably louder wallop. Obviously blades such as kukri go way back too but are still used today by armed forces the Ghurkas and so on.
Slings in modern times an odd one they require I would imagine a fair amount of skill and practice to use so not sure it would be a modern favourite. Thinking out of the box for longer ranged distraction purposes there could be something along the lines of the modern hand held catapults fishermen use to propell bait. Such tools are easier to aim than a sling, faster to deploy and pretty much as inventory light too.
