I think this game has got a lot of potential to be an esport game, i'm really attracted from this game so these are my suggestions:
1) Add in game the possibility to create a team/clan, with a custom name, tag, banner if possible (something like custom team's banner of dota 2), a logo (to be loaded from the PC, and not pre-mades pls), ecc...
2) A ranking sistem, like csgo or league of legends.
3) The possibility to watch live matches directly from the game, and the add of section "tournaments" where people can see in live tournaments (of course with a delay, for any ghosting). And also the possibility to download replays.
4) A chat splitted in countries, like "italy chat" "spain chat" for find easily people to play with.
5) A game mode done just for the ranked matches, tournaments ecc...
6) If the developers in future wants to host some major tournament, i suggest to add some cosmetics for cover (if necessary) the prizes cost and a lan, obviously nothing pay to win, just some skins.
So, these are my suggestions...

There were threads shortly after the announcement (here and here) that were asking about esports.
Generally, the proposition was overwhelmingly positive---I think it would be a very engaging and entertaining game to watch competitively, myself---but it was also pointed out that whether or not it becomes an esport has little to do with the devs and more to do with the player base being large enough, and vocal enough, to facilitate it.
