    Proud to be a Wenja?

It seems every 4th word used by the tribals in FCP is "Wenja", even their enemies. They must be exceedingly proud of their tribal identity then.. I even ran into a couple having sex at a campsite and was relieved their dialogue was just caveman-style grunts and not crying out "Wenja, Wenja" at the culmination of their passion!

My point is that either PIE was a very limited language or, more likely, NPC speech samples are. It's not helped by "Wenja" sounding like the English "whinger", a uselessly complaining person..

Tribal stuff is very much about identity imo and when a society feels under threat or pressure I think that sense of identity becomes even more important and entrenched. Coming from Northern Ireland I know all about excessive flag waving and silly T shirts saying stuff like I am proud to be a... I guess the Wenja are in that culturally combative frame of mind. Also some languages seem to be more third person than English although I do not know if that is true of PIE maybe someone else could enlighten.

In fairness you get a lot of Udam and Azila talk too.

PS I could easily see 'Proud to be a Wenja' as a T shirt design.

PPS On the whinger similarity as an old pen and paper toleplaying Games Master in my youth it is really difficult to make up names for stuff that does not sound similiar to something else in some other language often with unintended mockery resulting from some individual.

Haha! I'd wear a "proud to be a Wenja!" Shirt!

To understand why they keep saying Wenja, you need to remember that there is no sense of nationality at this time. A tribe is a family of sorts, and the proto language they speak is very simple compared to modern English. Wenja is likely contextual, it would mean something like 'our people' 'friend' 'pal' 'me' 'us' and 'you who is from my group', etc.

Similar, it's like me saying to you "Human help human find way home?" You would know exactly what I mean, even though it sounds silly to us.

Maybe Ubi will produce some as part of their merchandising to go with the plushy mammoths and so on - if Wenja like.

    Wenja go now.
