I've been laid off from virtually every full time job I've ever had, but I lasted the longest on the last one.

Where I last worked, I was a week short of 18 years when I was laid off. After 18 years you got 4 weeks of vacation, so I missed out on that. When I started you got 1 week after the first year. Those that started a couple of months after me got 2 weeks after the first year.

It's ok though. I had to take a bunch of paid personal time to get the hand controls on the van worked on, and they wouldn't let me make up all of it. I guess they thought they would get in trouble for me working (mostly) 40 hour weeks and only charging 32 hours per week.

The money we try to get is not severance, but backpay of salary. That company owes me 8 months of not paid salary and travel expenses from almost the whole year I worked there.
The money from the gouvernement agency comes from the taxes we all pay, but they will try to get it back from the company. I wish them luck, who knows who owns the company and the money, clearly "not" my former boss.
No security was present when I left the office, I think I was the last one to visit it, before the landlord changed the locks. Only thing from me left in that office was my book with Dutch driving rules. A well, managed to get my liscense anyway

I hope for all that the only reasons you leave a job is because you got a promotion, a better job or pension!

Gee whiz .... They weren't paying you. Well on them! I hope you do get your back pay, or at least most of it!

And... you can always get another copy of the book of Dutch driving rules... and tape it to your front bumper.

Glad you escaped! Best to leave those lorries quite a bit of room. I've had to dodge those before, knowing they were unfamiliar with the area, just by looking at how they were driving. I left them plenty of room to change lanes when they needed to. Some of the people behind me would get upset, but they weren't thinking far enough ahead to see what was about to happen. Best to get there undamaged both personally and vehicle wise.

    Since confetti is banned elsewhere...

Congratulations, Speedy!!! I know you still have a thesis to deal with, but I hope one more thing off your shoulders will speed that along. Good luck!

LOL! I like just being called Speedy. If I want a new name in here, I'd have to go through a long name changing process...

Seriously, thanks you guys. It's been a stressful last few weeks with me trying to finish writing my thesis draft and preparing my presentation. I passed my presentation, and I need to do some edits to my draft, but it's much easier to do now. So just maybe I can come back in here a bit!

Oh wait, there is still the holiday, moving, and job/house search bit... riiiiight... Eh whatever. Let me enjoy this right now.

    Oi!

As a heads up, I'm doing my last stages of moving this week and traveling this weekend. I will be keeping tabs as to what is going on in here, but I might not be able to post...

Just to let everyone know that packing in hot, sticky weather is NOT something fun to do... particularly if you have a sunburned back. Ow.
