Nah, you would need a whole suit of armor to deal with some creatures! Their bites can be pretty nasty.

You guys inspired me to write how I saw things today...

I stayed home because it was a holiday (Queen Victoria's day in Canada) and it was running buckets. So I played Beyond Good and Evil, read the threads here, then the rain had stopped and I went for errands.

It's so beautiful here at this time of the year. I live in the country but very close to the city. But I'm also close to a national park. Everything was so green after the rain. And the tree trunks were so dark. Such contrasts and different shades of green. I always like the green at this time of the year. A tender green. Later in the Summer everything gets darker and dryer, so it's special in the Spring. And I can't stop looking at my flower beds in the backyard, everytime I pass by the patio door. Not many flowers but all kinds of greens, the hostas are at their best. So beautiful, especially with a grey sky for some reason, with no sunshine. There is something special and romantic about the color of nature, the trees after the rain, when the sky is still grey. I wanted to drive forever, I don't think I ever enjoyed it as much as today. It makes me think about Chronicles of a Vampire, when Louis describes how everything is enhanced after he has been turned into a vampire, everything looks more vibrant.

I've always been this observant. I remember telling a friend about the tender green in Spring (that is what I call it) a couple years ago. She had never noticed. And the following year, she was the one telling me about it.

I love spring for similar reasons. Not for the green colors, but all of the new colors coming out from the winter blankets. Sure, the green leaves and grass helps it, but I love the flowers more. They give off this aroma that just defines spring for me. Going outside in the morning and smelling that first thing really does wake me up and put me in a happy mood. And then you walk out and see all of the tulips, daffodils, flowering trees, orchids, and crocuses all over the place... it's just beautiful! I hope to grow a spring garden if I ever get my own piece of land (which won't be anytime soon) so I can just sit out there among my flowers and smile all of the time...
too bad it doesn't help for studying.

The best part of spring for me is that occasional unexpected morning in May or early June when the cold front comes through in the night, and the temperature drops below 60. That makes the morning walk a great pleasure. And here, where wind is a given, that also means that you'd better wear a light windbreaker to ward off the chill. Even the birds seem to like it, singing somehow clearer and longer than on hot mornings.

I see the same behaviour is shown by the squirrels in the frontyard here on colder mornings (like this morning with only 35 F). They don't sing but are faster climbing trees up and down and hopping tree tops.

It's their cries of it being too cold. Oh, I know. I've been singing that all day!

I'd like the springtime much more if it didn't rain every day! I broke my arm several years ago, and the old saying is true - it does ache every time the weather changes!

No-one has ever accused me of being normal. I'm strange, and proud of it!
