I have been reading reviews, and watching video's, and the concensus is that the while the game itself is ok, its just not a 'good' FC game.
I hope this doesnt hurt there being another FC game in the future, or even Ubi taking chances (within 'some' limits) with the gameplay.
I would not believe everything you read. For a start it is often pretty obvious that some reviewers are all tuckered out on open world games because they have to play them for reviewing purposes rather than for fun. This game is not perfect - what game is - but it has many good qualities far from the least being its setting. Too much emphasis has been put on the story by some people too but here you can tell their was an attempt to make the whole exercise of raising your tribe be the story rather than just some plot missions.
I actually think a little more development time would not have gone a miss on Primal but it is still a departure and as a departure it was probably bound to be a diamond in the rough. Other Far Crys were able to build on for example past weapon inventories and so on Primal had to start from scratch. Also I am hoping that some of the tweaks that might improve gameplay in general may arrive in patches or even later in DLC. It seems to me there was a lot of people out there who just couldn't wait to get the hatchet out because they think for example that AC has gotten too derivitive but then complain about Primal no longer having guns. I do not play AC - so I have no interest in any of that debate - and it has not polluted how I feel about Far Cry past or present. I also think that FC4 got a raw deal. I never felt it was an FC3 reskin as many critics claim it just took what FC3 had and added more and what franchise does not do that on occasion. Whilst it is only right that Pagan acted different to Vass. People complain about stuff being the same then moan when the villian acts different. Pagan was obviously someone in touch with the mobile phone age happy to do his haranging / stalking and threatening at a distance via calls he probably would have texted too they definitely should have used that. Vass struck me as more hands on for a start he did his own dirty work rather than using others. Pagan is more the manipulative general type you even get the sense that he was striving to manipulate you as the player. He certainly aimed and fired you as a player at Yuma but now I am veering off topic.
I think so too.Originally Posted by vic_must_play Go to original post
I actually think it was the best FC, but for different reasons.
The Co-op added a HUGE value to the FC series, for me.
Being able to play with a buddy, laugh at stuff, complain about other stuff, and express triumph over other stuff with a buddy, was just way too good to NOT make it into another FC game.
I get that it takes more dev effort, and time, to make co-op.
But, it also sells 2x as many copies, and cranks up the fun factor.
Back on topic, I think my LEAST favorite part of FC4 was the crafting system. I got bored to tears trying to find, wait, find, wait, wait, wait some more, then finally get the animal that you need to craft a pouch out of the skin, when you could really just go purchase any number of 30 round magazines and a backpack to carry all your ammo in.
That, and the no co-op, is the reason I wont be getting FCP.
There have been no sales numbers for Primal, but it 'looks' as though it didnt do as well as the others.
Thats why I am hoping that it doesnt hurt the series next game (I am thinking Time travel, guns, lazers, dino's, and flying cars, lol).
I may be wrong but I am increasingly confident that Primal will be successful enough and that soon enough Ubi will return to the modern era. A little break was probably needed given all the press about reskins and so on. With a game set thousands of years in the past that uses no guns coming under some reskin criticism imagine the furore that woudl have occurred if it had been another more standard FC that followed after FC4. As I have said elsewhere I never judged FC4 to be a reskin of FC3 but lots of people online sadly seem convinced or have convinced themselves that is the truth.
As to FC in space - anything is possible - but I think it is far more likely to be somewhere in South America or some such as hinted by a certain insane in the brain holy man in FC4.
