Primal (far cry) - crash crash crash

    I am running a Windows 7 (64-Bit) system which cleanly handles Witcher III (and other graphics intense games) on VERY HIGH & ULTRA SETTINGS. In terms of critical components, system has:: (1) ASRock X99 Extreme4 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel MB; (2) Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3 GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W Desktop Processor; (3) HyperX FURY 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Intel X99; (4) SAPPHIRE NITRO Radeon R9 380 DirectX 12 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP.

I access the game through Steam. I have the most current BIOS and MB & Video Drivers. I have verified the game file(s) via Steam File Verification.

With regard to specific crash locations, I found that Shaman/Mammoth/Rhino Quest is impossible to complete as it does not do check-point saves and invariably crashes along the way. I found the came crashed several times when I went on the Hunter Quest where I find the body of a fallen High Elk (and only got past it by running in from a distance, hitting E to engage the quest, and once obtained - crash - I could then run away and have quest. I had to take a similar approach to the lower northland bonfire located on the tip of a cliff. I can kill the 3 Udham with bow though once I entered the camp to light the bonfire - crash-crash-crash-crash-crash - I spawned close enough to the bonfire to have 2-seconds to light it - crash - game save had it light so - I ran away as soon as next reload finished. Even so, I am exploring the northlands and it seems like the game crashes all the time for no reason in the snowy lands (where you need extra clothing - I have been running around in the south with extra clothing skill in play without issue).

ADDENDUM TO LOCATIONS: Since writing this original post on Discussion (Primal) on Steam, I have completed nearly all of the Southern Realms (aka Need to Complete Final Quest To Access Temple). I can play all of the warmer climates WITHOUT A SINGLE CRASH. With regard to quests in the north, I was able to start the quest for Yellow Flowers in Udam land, I was captured, talked to Ull (and saw son), and was working on completing the "Search The Caves" to escape quest - and after fighting through the first cave - I crashed HARD just outside of the second cave. AGAIN, I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH - THE GAME ONLY CRASHES IN THE NORTH - IS THERE AN ISSUE RENDERING SNOW? WITH COLD DAMAGE CALCULATION (I do have warm clothes so I sustain no damage).

In short, I suffer repeated crashes in various site specific places and randomly in the northern lands where it freezes, locks down game, and minimizes it - mouse is locked until I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del > Task Manager and kill the game.

I have to say these repeated crashes are ruining what might be a great game. ADDENDUM: In fact, I would say that these crashes, being limited to the NORTH LANDS, have effectively cut me off from playing a good 1/3 of the game and have played a SIGNIFICANT ROLE in RUINING my GAME EXPERIENCE!

ANY HELP OR PATCHES WOULD BE GREAT - OTHERWISE - I GUESS I GET 2/3RDS of a game.

Looks like everyone with a graphic card with GCN 1.2 has this error.
Same for me, Radeon 380 as well.

Hi TygerxEyes, welcome to the forums. I moved your thread from the News & Announcements section to the Technical Support for PC sub-forum.

The team is working on this issue but it can't hurt to submit a support ticket by going here. Hang in there!

it also happens on pre cgn cards .. its most likely an AMD + primal game driver issue

i tried the game yesterday on a win 7 machine with AMD 15.7 WHQL drivers and an HD 5770

game ran in the south area

fast traveled to a snowy region .. boom CRASH within 60 seconds

your just gonna have to wait till Ubisoft and AMD can find out what in the drivers is causing this problem

the problem does not occur on my GTX 960 card with Nvidia driver version 359,06 installed

Please submit a ticket. I spent almost 4 hours on the phone with tech support we went through everything and identified that the only common thing was the radeon R series cards. The more tickets we get open on this the more time and resources Ubisoft will put into getting fixed. It all based on what breaks the game and the number of confirmed cases. Highest numbers are at the top of the list.

This is a great point. The technical team can only know the problem is occurring when people report it. Posting on the forums is helpful and can attract direct attention from support reps, but their primary function is to sort through and respond to submitted tickets. I highly encourage anyone encountering technical issues to contact support.

also everyone with an AMD GPU that has the problem ....should probably open a ticket with AMD also

you can do so here http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-arti...etprocess.aspx

    http://support.amd.com/en-us/contact/email-form

as i think it's gonna take both AMD as well as Ubisoft to sort out this problem

with a patch to the game as well as possibly a fixed driver ..

if the problem is indeed driver related they should be notified about it

for me this is 100% AMD problem, cuz with NVIDIA all works perfect - that means ubi is clear ;/

    BUT

UBI should be 100% involved to repair that and push AMD

solved the crash i was getting on my AMD 5770 and the HD7750 cards i have

tried both AMD Crimson 15.12 saw lower FPS went back to 15.7.1 WHQL drivers

Cleared out all AMD drivers using DDU

DELETED the left over driver folders on Drive C:\

installed the 15.7 .1 driver ..rebooted

re ran Direct X from the games support folder AFTER installing the 15.7 .1 drivers , and just played for over an hour in the northern regions with out a single crash
yes in the snowy part .... not a single crash

i do have Razer cortex installed and it ran and killed off almost a dozen services in Win 7 before the game launched

i was getting 45 - 65 FPS on the 5770 card resolution was @ 1440 X 900 max res for my old 16:10 screen that's connected to that old computer
and yes i was in the far northern parts of the game map

video settings set to all NORMAL not ultra or high or low just Normal ( i selected that since a 5770 is the lowest supported GPU )

    SMAA = enabled
    motion blur OFF

    PC Specs
    Dell Dimension E 520 (the freaking thing is ancient..think i got it in 2006 ? )
    Intel core 2 quad Q6600 @ stock
HIS AMD HD 5770 1 gig DDDR5 GPU
    AMD Driver version 15.7,1 WHQL
    6 gig of DDR 2 ram Pc 2 6400
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate With SP 1 installed 64 bit

if you guys are still having problem

    try this

get and USE DDU clear out your old drivers and try the 15.7 .1 drivers ..then delete the left over driver folders from your drive in the AMD folder

after you reinstall the drivers re run Direct X setup from the Primal \ support \ software folder

try using Razer cortex to disable any un needed Windows backround services (again that program really does seem to work very well )

i mean its pretty bad if i can get the game running that well on an Old Dell with an HD 5770 and a R9 3XX card crashes

yesterday i did get the crash in the snowy part

    the crash said

    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: FCPrimal.exe
    Application Version: 1.0.0.0
    Application Timestamp: 56dafe6b
Fault Module Name: d3d11.dll < ------------------------------------------------------Direct X error

so i saw that and figured it had to be a direct X error
so if you look up your crash reports and see the same error .. reinstall Direct X

again Yesterday the game ran crash free till i hit a snowy part of the game map ... once i did.. BOOM ..... within 60 seconds it crashed with that error

game froze .. then went to black screen with that error

now that i rolled back the drivers and clean installed the driver using DDU to wipe out my old drivers .. then re installed direct X the problem is gone

    game works fine now
