Farfluffer, I completely agree that you have an issue and I was only trying to help clarify what it was and the terrible inconvenience it is for you and others who share your issue. You really did undersell the importance in what you were trying to express as it was lost in the frustrations you were putting into your words. Your last two posts identify the issue more clearly than your prior posts.
I have played in the opposite camera that is unnatural to me and even picturing it is difficult, so I can only imagine the difficulty you have to cope with.
I hope that they address this for you and others.
Coming from PC gaming, the big issue I have with the current shoulder swap mechanic is the fact, that the binding for the keys is basically tied with the running key.
Having to press right-click+shift in a close quarter environment can be a real pain in the a**, especially when you are forced to move around at the same time. If you got the timing wrong by just one millisecond, your character starts running into a 90° manner to the left or right, which can cause instant death (especially in the lower Lexington areas).
A separate shoulder swap key that is not tight to the Aim Down Sight-state would be the perfect solution for this, given the fact that games like Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Ghost Recon Online/Phantoms already had this built in.
Hey - Thanks, I appreciate this post and I'm glad I was able to explain it in a way that you understood. You're right, I'm extremely frustrated by this and it shows when I explain it. I very excitedly bought this game over the weekend, played up to the point where you establish the base of operations, and possibly won't touch it again unless this is fixed, which just further compounds my frustration because that $60 coulda been spent on women or booze. And I do want to stress that when I say things such as the "sign of a poor development team" I really don't mean it in an offensive way, and I don't mean that they're bad developers. Naughty Dog does the same thing....unfortunately.....and they are great developers. I just don't sugar coat. Spending $60 on a game before checking and seeing if you could stand playing it is a sign of a *******, but I wouldn't call myself a *******. But not allowing an option for left shoulder lock when many other games do and its clearly much better is an egregious mistake, and egregious mistakes are....well, you know.Originally Posted by RoamingDoughnut Go to original post
This camera thing is a HUGE deal, made worse by the fact the sloppy arse camera coding is used against us by the AI purposefully running in to the more blind spots as part of gameplay.
I almost canceled my preorder because of the **** cameras. These devs need a lesson from the guys who did Metal Gear PP. That game puts all other 3rd person shooters to shame.
Please fix this garbage we have.
P.S. I withdraw my complaint about not being able to swap shoulders when you aren't aiming. I still would prefer if you could, but as long as your shoulder swap is remembered each time you enter aim mode, it doesn't make a big difference. Uncharted 4 released with a "Remember shoulder swap" options, thanks in large part to me. This does not seem like a difficult option to add to The Division. Please, I want to enjoy your game, but I can not and will not until the shoulder swap is fixed so that it will remember your swap.
I am right handed and I shoot a rifle or long gun right handed. If I am aiming out of a doorway or window, I pick the spot that has the least exposure for me and allows me the best vantage point for picking targets. Only someone who is exceptionally ambidextrous would switch which side they shoot from and even then, they wouldn't do it on the fly, often exposing more of their body to be targeted. As it stands, the inability to set a prefered shoulder shooting side is idiotic. The simple fact that the gun sight doesn't give you a true aiming point, unless you go to a fully scoped position, shows the mechanic is faulty. You'd seriously have to be an idiot to aim a long gun out of a door or around an obstruction of some kind and then start shooting with the barrel blocked by the doorway or the obstruction, but currently that often happens. It's like whoever designed it has no idea about shooting mechanics and saw Rambo once, so he thinks everyone should stand out in the open, fully exposed to enemy fire.
The fact that the switching often occurs while you are shooting and moving at the same time is an exceptionally bad idea. When you are going up against the idiotically accurate shotgunners, who often get a perfect shot off on you after you have shot them, causing them to stagger and look down, makes no sense. I mean, the enemy already often shoots through buildings and hit you without even seeing you. Why force us to shoot in a way that is unnatural to us and causes us to expose ourselves when it is not actually necessary? How hard could it be, to allow me to lock in my prefered shooting shoulder? If I approach a doorway, as a right handed shooter, I do so in a very particular way, so as NOT to get shot. The game mechanic of autoswitching in close proximity to objects, more often than not, exposes me and causes me to get shot when I normally wouldn't. To me, it's just another example of this game's developers trying to force behavior on me that goes against what I would normally do. Not sure if they are just control freaks or if they have some deeper issues, but forcing me to shoot in a way that I don't want to, is just as bad as trying to force me into the DZ, when I have no desire to deal with all the stupidity in there. Maybe stop with the psychology and get back to making games fun and functional...
