Problems with the shoulder swap/shooting mechanics

You may have seen this thread in the general discussion. Sorry, didn't realize there was a suggestion and feedback thread.

In The Division, there is no way to swap shoulders unless you are aiming, and you can't set the camera to default to the left shoulder when you enter aim mode. It almost seems like the game has randomly swapped the shoulder on me a couple of times, but I might be wrong on that since Ive only played a little bit.

I know that you can swap shoulders when aiming, but I should not have to wait until I am aiming to swap, I should be able to swap whenever I want to. When I do swap shoulders, the camera should stay over the left shoulder until I manually switch it back to the right. The best example of the shoulder swap done right on the PS4 is MGS5, which is done exactly as I described. There's a large gap between the quality of The Division's shoulder swap system and the quality of MGS5's, and it really needs patched in The Division quickly.

There's a real lack of gameplay options, too. I mean, the essentials are there, but that's all that is there. This shoulder swap thing could be handled with a gameplay option.

If anybody plans to respond "well that's not really a big deal...".....respectfully, you're wrong. To prove to you that you are wrong, I have an activity for you to perform: Go play the division, and limit yourself to shooting ONLY over the left shoulder. When you get tired of that, go play MGS4 or MGS5 and limit yourself to shooting only over the left shoulder.

Spoiler: To do that in The Division will be a royal pain in your ***, you will not like it. To do it in MGS4 or MGS5, its one button click. The Division is using a shoulder swap system that is very clearly substandard. I hope this can be patched.

Its like if you ordered a pepperoni pizza, but the pepperonis tasted rotten. You'd call up the owner of the pizza shop and he'd be like "I don't think this is a major gripe. I think the crust and the cheese and sauce work really well as a whole." You'd be like helllll no! We're talking about rotten pepperonis, and this is a pepperoni pizza!

Same thing. This is a rotten third person shooting mechanic in a third person shooting game. It isn't acceptable and it needs to be fixed yesterday.

Respectfully, you're wrong. It isn't a big deal. To prove that you are wrong I have an activity for you to perform. Go play The Division and just keep playing. You'll find you're making a mountain out of a mole hill.

It would be a nice patch but I certainly wouldn't want them diverting resources away from other issues to add this in. Not yet anyway.

Its a shooting mechanic and this is a shooting game. Its definition makes it a big deal, not me. Anyway, I realize itll probably never get fixed. But its a sign of a poor development team to have a mechanic like this in their game. MGS4 was released in 2008, and it had this mechanic nailed perfectly. Its just crazy that in 2016, I can't walk around with my camera over the left shoulder. If I'm lucky a developer will read this, realize how ridiculously bad this mechanic is in The Division, and won't make the same mistake in some game in the future.

Games look sooo much better with the camera on the left shoulder :[

What I'd like to know is what difference does it make?

Why is the camera over the left shoulder so important?

It's not a sign of a poor development team. It's a sign of no one cared enough to make a big deal about it or even think about it.

The way it is in Metal Gear probably isn't even on purpose. It's just the way it was coded and no one cared enough to even notice it or question it.

Its a big deal because its a shooting mechanic, and this is a shooting game. Its a big deal because Ubisoft's competition has this mechanic done way, way better. Its a big deal because i would like to run around, without aiming, and have my camera on the left shoulder. Thats currently not possible in this game, and thats craaaaaaazy. It looks better when the camera is on the left, and in certain areas its much more functional.

The gunplay in this game, in general, will be much smoother and more functional if they upgrade the shoulder swap. Have you played MGS4 or MGS5? For the record, i dont like either of those games at all outside of their shooting mechanics, which I think were perfect in MGS4, and good in mgs5. But, It should be relatively easy to tell how much smoother the shooting mechanics in MGS4/5 are than in The Division. Shoulder swap is one big reason why.

Google "shoulder swap ________________" in the blank, you can put:

    The division
    Tlou
    Glitch or bug
    Ps4
    Uncharted
    Gears of war

Anything like that, and youll find a lot of people complaining about exactly what im talking about. Theres a surprising amount already on this forum. If they didnt care enough to think about this, thats a clear sign of a bad development team. This is important, this is a shooting mechanic. Im sorry, but not being able to put your camera on your left shoulder is piss poor, especially when MGS4 showed everybody how it should be done back when George W. was president.

And i dont say that its a sign of bad development team to be mean or harsh. Its just the unfortunate truth. Doesnt mean theyre bad developers, just that they made a terrible mistake here and it needs to be fixed now and never done wrong again.

No, this is not as big a deal as you are trying to make it out to be, this is only your personal preference. You are entitled to your opinion and I'm sure having the camera over the left shoulder is more aesthetically pleasing to you, but trying to force that opinion on anyone who disagrees with you is immature.

You failed to answer the question posed on you about what difference it makes and why it is important. It has nothing to do with the actual shooting mechanics of the game, but I believe it is important to you for the camera to be on the left as it is important to myself and many others why the camera should be on the right. My brain is hard wired for a certain perspective and it seriously bothers me to view over the left as I am right handed and the view over the right is more natural to me. Right handed or left handed may not have anything to do with it, but it is what feels more natural to people which makes the difference. (This point here is likely why you don't see this as much in third person gameplay, most people find it a weird perspective.)

An option for camera angle and simpler or even a toggled shoulder swap would be fine, but I think for now that your cries of "piss poor" development is childish. Massive has other more important issues to deal with at this time, but if you want to be heard and taken seriously, don't make yourself out like a child throwing a temper tantrum because his parents didn't buy him that toy from Walmart.

    Have patience.

P.S "A lot of people" is only a small group, not the majority.

Im not forcing left shoulder on anybody, dude. If it operated properly in the division, it would stay over whatever shoulder you put it over. So if you keep it on the right, itll always be on the right.

And i like how you say its no big deal, and one paragraph later say that your brain is hard wired for a certain perspective. My brain is just as hard-wired for the left side. Would it be a big deal to you if the camera was always on the left? Im guessing yes. (Hint: that means its a big deal)

Every word i have typed has answered the question of what difference does it make and why is it important. Hell, you answered what difference it made. Its a camera control directly related to shooting, it has everything to do with shooting mechanics. If anything, i am underselling how important it is.

And the most important part is that you have to be able to be able to swap shoulders when you arent aiming. Realize, i have to swap shoulders every single time i enter aim mode. Think about that for a second. Hell, try doing it. Its terrible. Imagine if they implemented a feature where you had to turn the safety off every time you press L2. Thats essentially how im forced to play this game. And thats after walking around all cross-eyed because my camera is in the wrong position.........:|
