So currently I'm level 13 and the next story mission for me to do is a level 16 tech one (I think).

I've tried to do side missions but I get around 1k xp for them and I need a lot more to level up.

Any suggestions on how to level up to meet the criteria for the next story mission? Bcs I see this being a persistent problem? Thanks for your help.

You could replay older missions on hard, would even grand you more exp and maybe some good loot too.

You should be getting more than 1k for side missions, these sound like beginner ones. Try travelling to an area of the map on par with your level and activate the safehouse to get side missions for that area. These missions should level you quicker. I did find it a bit of a grind to 15 but it seemed to go up quickly from there

Oh so I get xp from completing hard missions even if i've done them on normal. Ill get right on that, thanks.

I think that's probably my problem. Also I was told elsewhere if you complete all the side missions for a particular safe house, the safe house gives you a ton of xp?

Yes it gives you XP and I think another set of missions. I think I was getting 19k exp for the safehouse bonuses

The low side-missions give you 1k exp yea... Maybe you should try doing your own level's side-missions...
There are side missions which give you more exp than the main mission of the same level! (main missions always level you up about 40%)

Also, for those saying you could just do the old missions to get exp... Don't!
It's a waste of time. With the main missions, exp is a 1 time reward! You won't get any exp when you redo them

I think ppl are doing old missions on Hard to farm drops and the ability to just fast travel to it...the EXP you get is from the mobs you kill along the way to completion...and since they're elites and a boss or two, there's plenty of exp to gain.
