orange crap is just aesthetic. Rotate a map and it will change directions.
Was wondering too.
@ChrisFox79: Nice idea, but when I play solo I still get them. I checked :-)
@KY-Northwood: That's right, it's not on the legend and it should be.
@Rnkot: As a professional game designer, I'll just repeat what I said in another thread on this - my spider senses are tingling. This isn't just an aesthetic element. 1) It's not aesthetic enough to warrant the dev time, and 2) There's a logic to the number, position and motion of the mysterious orange rectangles. We just haven't figured out what that logic is yet.
Figured out what the orange boxes on the map icons are. I am on Xbox One. These boxes have to do with the "Snap to marker" option. There are only ever 4 orange boxes on the map at a time (depending on zoom levels). Indicating the 4 directions on the d-pad (Up, Down, Left, Right). So by looking at the orange boxes on the map icons you will know which icon you will go to by pressing the corresponding direction on the d-pad to snap to it. A little hard to explain. You have to experiment and see it for yourself to get it. I am about 99.9% sure that this is what the boxes are for.
Oh wow - interesting. I'm on PC where there's no such system for mouse and keyboard that I'm aware of, and they still kept that in :-)Originally Posted by bigtimmy31 Go to original post
I took your picture from your original post to show you what I was talking about. In the red box at the bottom- "snap to marker" using the arrow keys on the keyboard. The fact that it is not explained and so mysterious looking makes it hard to understand but when you actually use the snap to marker and see the orange boxes go with it on the map it all makes sense.Originally Posted by I.M.Wellard Go to original post

What's interesting is that the orange rectangles change as you move the map around, If you see an icon with an orange rectangle on the east side of it, sliding the map towards the west will cause the rectangle to pop to the west side of the icon. Similarly with the north and south sides. On some icons, the number of orange rectangles changes as you zoom in and out. This makes me believe that it is just fluff and doesn't really mean anything.
Well , just throwing this out there , but i think the orange blocks are showing the number of entrances to this location.
If there is one, then there is only one way in. Two blocks and two ways in. It would also explain why they turn as the map is rotated indicating the direction of entrance.
Maybe....
It actually does not explain that. For example because when you rotate the map the boxes appear and disappear... I had an example of an area marked with one entrance and another box appeared. Nor it is fluff and it means somethingOriginally Posted by livingit10 Go to original post
I can confirm what bigtimmy31 wrote: It is an indicator of the key you need to press in order to snap to this circle. If the box is on top of the circle, you press UP ARROW and you snap to this circle - screen centers on it. When you rotate, you make other circles appear/disappear and it is automatically reflected in the position of the boxes. Try slowly rotating the map and you'll see you can snap to different circles. Same applies when you zoom out. Oh - and you move the map with WSAD (analog on pad?) but snapping is done with ARROWS. I guess it's quite useful when you play on a pad.
If you need, I have screenshots![]()
it is the direction which from your current marker you have to press the arrow keys or dpad to move to that marker, so if the box is on the left you have to hit left, if the box is on the right and top you can hit either right or upOriginally Posted by VentusVero Go to original post
