Primal crashes constantly! System should be able to handle it!?

Game freezes often during gameplay (black screen, screen/video card shuts down, forced to hard reset). I find it usually happens when there is a lot of activity onscreen - primarily in battle or if I'm overlooking a vista that populates a lot of wildlife (waterfalls, birds, trees swaying, day/night cycle, weather cycle, wildlife) and worst of all - battles that take place in/around the mound fortresses... My system/drivers are well over the recommended specs and this pc has been good to go on all other games - excluding Arkham Knight, but that's another story..

    Intel Core i7-5930k @ 3.5GHz
    MSI X99A Gaming 7 Motherboard
    EVGA GeForce GTX 980 FTW
Corsair Vengeance 16 GB DDR4 DRAM
    Windows 7, 64

I have played 25 hours now and throughout I've reduced all the settings (frame rate, quality, etc.) and it still happens in 'busy' locations - I'm getting to the point where I anticipate it happening and sure enough, it does. What's the deal?

Not much running in the background either. Excluding, Steam AND uPlay.

Hi Well_PP. Welcome to the forums! I understand this is frustrating... it seems like your specs meet requirements and you say your drivers are above specs but I'm wondering if they are up to date. Thank you for these technical details, such as letting us know you're not running much in the background. Whatever the extra programs are in the background, you may want to close them just in case. It will be helpful if you contact support and submit a ticket as well, since they are the most informed representatives regarding technical issues.
