Community Spotlight: Sandholm
Riders, it is time for a brand new Community Spotlight!
This spotlight is shining for the one and only Sandholm, aka ITS SANDY OMG.
Sandholm is a long time Trials fan going back almost as far as the rider himself. Well known around the community, Sandholm has participated in a ton of Trials related events and initiatives, but let's not spoil the story.
Sandy, let's hear it!
First off, tell us all a little about yourself.
My name is Casper Sandholm AKA ITS SANDY OMG on Xbox One. I have been playing Trials competitively since 2008. I started out with Trials 2: Second Edition where I held a few world records at one point. I have never held any world records on Trials HD or Trials Evolution, but I have held a bunch on Trials Evolution: Gold Edition. Then I had the record for Fusion Factory on Trials Fusion for a few hours a few months after release. I did not play Trials HD, Evolution and Gold Edition much when they came out, but I have gone back to HD and Evolution a bunch since Trials Fusion came out. I have streamed a lot of Trials and I started back in November of 2013 with Trials Evolution: Gold Edition, and eventually Trials Fusion once it was released. I am now trying to get back into streaming a few times a week again.
What was your first Trials game?
My first Trials game was Trials 2: Second Edition, but I played the MiniClip Trials games a few times when I was a kid. I don't really consider those early ones as a game, more like a track or a level. A lot of those tracks eventually were made into tracks in Trials 2: Second Edition.
What is your first big memory of Trials?
My first memory of Trials is the MiniClip tracks. After that I randomly stumbled on Trials 2 on Steam and then just spent time on making flips and big jumps until I later started competing and trying to get better.
What makes you come back again and again to Trials?
I keep coming back to Trials simply because it is the best type of game I have ever played. I do take small breaks from Trials now and then, but I never quit it.
What is your favorite Trials related memory?
I think that is when I sat up all night, trying to get a top 100 run on this track called Tricky Obstacle, which was a tutorial track on T2SE. I sat playing that same track for 3 hours straight in the middle of the night while talking with a few of the other players in the in game chat. Then I suddenly got the run I wanted and it happened to be the fastest run on that track.
Another Trials related memory would be when I went to Dreamhack with NSP | Venomz, Ronshakk, Pajamaz and TheBlazeJP for the Trials Fusion Championship. That was an experience of a lifetime, meeting other top players that I had been talking with for years.
Who's your biggest rival?
I don't really have any rival in Fusion, but I have had different ones in all games. On T2SE it was always someone from the in game chat, but when I got better it became the other Danish player who was ahead of me on any track, which ended up with me being the fastest Danish player on all tracks for a while. On Trials HD, I just tried to beat some of the people I knew from T2SE and the same with Evolution at first. On Gold Edition, my biggest rival was Sebi2a because we kept beating each other on HD Warehouse tracks. When I went to Evolution on 360 again, it was Ganglyy that became my rival and we had some good fun until he became a lot better than me.
Recently you visited the RedLynx Studio in Helsinki. What was that experience like for you?
My visit to the RedLynx Studio was unreal because back on T2SE the devs and employees from RedLynx were always hanging out in the chat and playing the game so I already knew a few of them from back in 2008. Meeting Jorma and ANBA was something I had always wanted to do but never thought it would happen. Meeting the other people invited was an honor as well, and all of them were awesome. It was a lot of fun to talk with people That had the same passion for Trials that I do. Hopefully I'll be there again sometime in the future.
What's the best part about the Trials Community?
The best part about the community must be that there is always someone able to help you with whatever you need. And if a community member cannot help you, En0 will 99% of the time be able to help you, either by giving you the answer you are looking for or giving you a link to another thread. Also the fact that RedLynx is listening to the community all the time. Any of the problems the community had when Trials Fusion launched are all pretty much fixed, because RedLynx listened to the community.
