I agree with most of these suggestions
I kinda like the idea of a hardcore option
I have a different solution, I'll reply...
The Dark Zone and rogue system right now is odd. If people want to opt into PVP, let them. Don't give non-rogues a silly advantage (*cough* like tracking players through walls *cough*).
I propose a Hardcore Bracket/Mode/Whateverman for people to opt into -- something along the lines of:
- Higher kill count to trigger manunt status
- Unless manhunt indicator, rogue indicator only shows up with line of sight only (no minimap aids / see-through-walls assistance if not a manhunt)
- Rogue timer hidden to public
- NPCs help rogues aligned with their faction (assuming alignment is a thing)
- No unlimited sprint
- Longer respawn timer for dying rogue
- Friendly fire does damage to the group
- Eventually... enable PVP outside of Dark Zones (a man can dream...)
I feel like something like this would address a lot of concerns with the DZ. What do you think?
[edit] unfortunately I can't edit the poll to add another option for those who disagree... feel free to reply though!
I say if the devs are willing to put the time into making it into its own separate instance of the base dark zone then fine, other gaming companies have done such things with games so its possible that Ubi/massive could do this to appease a certain branch of players.
Again so long as the regular DZ remains and as you have suggested this is a Different DZ that people can opt into.
Why do people keep wanting to split the community so much? The Dark Zone should stay open world and dynamic -- it should stay as one entity, and not split into two different ones for two different crowds. If you want a truly diverse and dynamic community then you must put all different players in the same bowl... the second you start splitting up the community into different bowls for different playstyles -- the less dynamic it will be. It will just be the same **** every day, instead of new experiences every time you enter.
drdent has the right of it here.
Remember: this game will not have five hundred thousand people playing it every minute of every day. Sooner or later, the greater the diversity of queues, the greater the chance to be the only person in the one you like. Less splitting is better. Less pandering to specific parts of the fanbase is better. Let the ****ing work stand in the wild for a couple weeks before you start asking for your own ideal wonderland to be built kinda-sorta in its framework.
drdent45 & Kirinrahl-- I know what you mean about splitting the community, in general I agree with you. However, the reason I mentioned it being a bracket is that the community is already split up into various brackets and instances.
I could see this as potentially opening up new opportunities for people... For example, someone might start out non-hardcore for a while, and eventually want a new experience, so they try hardcore, or vise versa
many other games have seen success with having a separate hardcore ruleset -- it is a fairly common concept, so I don't see this type of thing as pandering to a specific group or a vocal minority. so many games/servers/etc with a "hardcore" option speaks to the justification of a split
I say no to the suggestion. It would split the community which is a bad thing right off the bat. This is not a PVP centered game and I am stunned at teh amount of time a few people have put in to trying to make it more PVP oriented. Not every game that hits the market has to have PVP catered to. Just my feelings on teh matter and the game has not even gone live yet and folks are trying to make changes just of a limited alpha and beta.
