Massive devs interview last years claimthey want PVP to be important , Ryan Barnard

According to Ryan Barnard, the game director for The Division
“It’s another one of the great ways that we’re really changing up what’s been done previously in this genre. We want PvP to be important. A lot of times it’s hard in a mainstream game… people are a little averse to it, it can be a little freaky; it’s generally very competitive.”

Did massive delivers ? Does the PVP was feeling important enough in the beta ? I dont think so .... at least not so far

Here 7 minute mark , he also claim agains the PVP was going to be meaningfull and important but also as i said multiples time he describe a Dayz like experience but less hardcore where you can loose stuff but not all the equipement you wear , but as it stand in the last beta it isnt like this neither the PVP is fearsome or paranoids like Dayz , peoples dont care and avoid PVP or been rogue and dont pay attentions to other players unless they shoot at them or are flag as rogue ...

According to Ryan Barnard, the game director for The Division, The Dark Zones are a little different than the normal PvP arenas players are used to. Rather than having to back out of the game to play PvP, players can head to a Dark Zone and jump in. Barnard shared his thoughts on the new PvP mode:

It’s another one of the great ways that we’re really changing up what’s been done previously in this genre. We want PvP to be important. A lot of times it’s hard in a mainstream game… people are a little averse to it, it can be a little freaky; it’s generally very competitive.”

We are excited to see how this new PvP method turns out. On the surface, the premise seems like a positive new direction and one that will encourage players to participate in PvP. We would have loved to see something like this in The Last of Us, for example. While the multiplayer PvP area in that game was okay, it felt very removed from the campaign, almost like an afterthought.

Dark Zones, on the other hand, are meant to feel like they’re part of the game,

Looks like you only see what you want to see.

Loved the Dark Zone , sometimes i went for hours without Pvp'ing in it, sometimes i PVP'd for hours in it.

it's a great mixed bag of douchbaggery ( exactly what the developer that did the small play through with Angry Joe stated " we wanted to allow plenty of room for douchbaggery" )

I would say , they hit the nail on the head......and drove it in with one Shot.

Bahahaha, oh, the comedy! Make it stop... wait, don't! xD

Another thread about this!? ROFL... bahahahahahaha... omg, holy deja' vu. I'm starting to feel like this is the sequel to the movie Groundhog Day.

Think this is also a key portion...

It's not your normal PVP. Listen to the podcast where yes he does say what you quoted but he does elaborate also. Start at 20 minutes. They also mention how the PVP community has ruined a few games.

Pvp has definitely ruined a few game look at what they have done and are doing to Destiny.

So many nerfs for the sake of pvp that pve suffered as a result. So much Dev time goes into trying to keep pvpers happy that they neglect almost every other aspect of the game itself.

I for one am glad this game doesn't have pvp arenas. So sick and tired of hearing about K/D

Can't say as I heard this interview at any point (not saying it doesn't exist, just that I never got around to it)... and I thought I hardcore <3'ed Ubisoft before... but finally for not just any dev, but one as cutting-edge and top-notch/top-shelf as Ubi, to actually have the sack to be willing to say point blank, "PVP community has ruined a few games"... OMG! I might just have to elope with Ubi, if Ubi would have me! It's like sweet, sweet music to many a' ears!

    Agreed wholeheartedly.

I love PVP in games, I really do - but I agree too much focus on the PVP elements creates balancing nightmares and distracts from the game overall. Unless the game is 100% competitive PVP that is.

Then again, Ubisoft has rehashed the same Assassin's Creed game about 3 or 4 times just for some easy cash as a yearly release (ala CoD marketing practices) so I can't give them all my love haha.

It's like a caricature at this point. What's tragic is that you don't even realize you're being a caricature.

Now go google caricature because I'm sure you have no idea what I'm talking about.
