    You're forced to tame 1 animal during one of the earlier story missions, but you can dismiss it immediately afterwards and then you're free to play the whole game without ever taming another one.

    Rick is correct. It's up to you if you'd like to play the game without beasts after completing the mandatory mission.

    That being said, don't discount playing with beasts until you try it! It's quite fun to run around the world on a Sabretooth. Have fun in Oros!

    Yay! Thanks, for the input. I just bought the game I thought I'd try to play it in the most difficult possible way. Second playthrough I'll take advantage of taming.

    That would definitely be the most difficult way.

    However I would say riding the animals would be more "quality of life" when it comes to travel, but you could always fast travel I suppose.
