It has very poor melee combat system. You can’t block, parry, dodge or do any of that more complicated stuff. Ubisoft should beef up Far Cry’s minimal melee combat systems. Sadly, they’re still pretty miserable. This open world offers a lot of activities, and you can have a good time just running around, exploring, and hunting animals. It’s definitely a meaty, well-made game. I just hope that the next Far Cry brings along more new ideas to go along with the cool setting and better combat system.
i just came to ask about the melee system (still contemplating about buying it or not)
sadly i was answered with what i hoped NOT to hear.
this is a game where there so much melee in it that allowing the player to parry would have gone a long long way. even a simple system like in DISHONORED (tap "block" at the right time to parry) would have been fun. just button mashing to kill is not good enough for a game like this, IMO.
So much melee really I barely do any it's all Bow and Spear plus my owl and black tiger, for me does the job very well if your good enough at stealth and take them out before they can do anything, sometimes i do the odd takedown with a club, if you play run and gun so to speak then yeah your going to have to melee, maybe try re-thinking your strategy
This game's melee system is more simplistic than Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (2006) or Mount & Blade (2008). It's not even as advanced as Chronicles of Rid**** (2004). It doesn't belong in this decade.Originally Posted by Darth_terra Go to original post
I agree with you, but I personally would still recommend purchasing the game, it's still very good, even with a bare bones melee system. In many ways the game is quite unlike anything else on the market.Originally Posted by topeira1980 Go to original post
That said if you've played previous FC games, the core gameplay will seem familiar.
But play on Expert mode, it offers a better experience.
Personally, I was quite shocked how simplistic the melee combat system was ...
But too be honest I think it was simply time constraints. I don't think Primal had a particularly long development time, and they did what they could.
I think although it got the green light to be fully developed, I don't think they were willing to pour the usual resources into a product that potentially would not be well received!
Primal was a gamble for Ubisoft...
