I'm about to start FarCry Primal and I can't wait. I'm a huge fan of the series. But I can't help but think that FarCry could work very well in a World War 2 setting. Ever played the last gen game called The Saboteur? Amazing game and it could work a lot like that. Could take over enemy bases and free POW's. Could explore the darker side of the war with the concentration camps and freeing them and or destroying those bases. So many different countries could provide amazing back drops. And really I think Worlds War 2 is due a comeback. Not only that it would be a very different FarCry, not only for the setting but the environments towns/cities that could be made and traversed. Anyone else agree?
I think the problem with WW2 is that it could be a very sensitive topic for many people and to have a game where you're freeing POW or liberating concentration camps might be politically insensitive, despite it being a game. I think that's why not too many WW2 based games have did this. Obviously you had The Great Escape video game but that was using characters based off of the movie and it wasn't insensitive.
I do believe WW2 would be a great setting for the Far Cry series, I just don't know if it would be possible with the current way the FC games go.
