A lot of points have been made in this thread, some good and some poor in their content. But after reading all of these posts by people on different ends of the earth and on different platforms, the realization struck me--why have a 3 hour maintenance period at the same time for all?

Ubi has plenty of servers around the globe, so why not just take down the servers a few at a time in order to perform whatever tasks are necessary and then bring them back up before taking on the next lot? By these means, players would still be able to play while maintenance is occurring on their nearest server, albeit with the potential for additional lag due to being connected to a farther server.

As a former systems engineer working in networking, there are surely other solutions than this one that would either avoid downtime all together or at least minimize it, making the whole experience a 15-30 minute affair compared to a 3 hour slog. This fact makes me question the purpose of said maintenance. Perhaps it is due to some arrangement where not all of the game servers are prepared as of yet, so this "maintenance" is sort of a balancing act to allow other traffic through the servers. Though whatever the reason, Ubi/Massive should just come clean--doing so would mitigate a lot of the player frustration that we are seeing.

I understand they are doing their best and we are all gamers we are used to patches and maintenance but today is my only day off for my week, and i was waiting for this game for along time, come on.

Oh my god, I had a great laugh reading most of this thread...

People are acting like they paid for this open beta... Or they expect this OPEN BETA to be a free demo for them to play... Haha!

I pitty the fools that do not understand the concept of beta's.. Open or closed.



Hint: It's for the devs to test and tweak, whenever they feel to do so.

Sure - they could be better at communicating with people, but that doesnt change the fact, that BETAs are only for devs to test and tweak the game.

I understand they are doing their best and we are all gamers we are used to patches and maintenance but today is my only day off for my week, and i was waiting for this game for along time, come on.

Awwww... Was THIS your only day to play THEIR beta? How dare they not to contact you, asking if it is okay to do maintenance!

Wow, people complaining about working hours and time off and such, you have time to play now, this is their time to WORK, this is a FREE, I repeat, FREE, open BETA, would you rather this happen now or in a few weeks time when the actual payed-for game is out? Stop complaining about something you aren't even entitled to, they could just have easily hired private beta testers to work out bugs and kinks, but they didn't, they let us get a sneak preview at the game, FOR FREE, while they are also relying on us to find kinks in the workings. Be happy you even got the option to have an open beta.

They're going based on their timezone guys, they're based in Malmo, Sweden, that makes it like noon at the time I'm writing this, it's only 3 hours down time, I'm sure all of you have something else you could be doing besides complaining.

Imagine being in Australia. The servers went down at 8pm and wont be back up until 11pm at the earliest.
For some this may not be an issue. But for me the only time i get top play is between 7-11 on most nights..

That is really bad!, i do hope you can be late tomorrow for work because this means your evening just got busted
