Hey All, long time no post
So being someone whose very familiar with the firearms community in the U.S. and its relation with the many Military and Law Enforcement units both inside and outside the country; there's one thing I've noticed that i just don't understand. If the goal is to provided semi-authentic military action shooter experience, why are weapons that have never been fielded or even considered being fielded by any LE/MIL tactical unit always making recurring appearances?
weapons like the ACR and the Kard have never been fielded by any organized armed force EVER, but they're in almost every tactical shooting on the market right now. the ACR is one of the ugly ducklings of the community because of its development history (Goggle "Magpul Masada") but is the "go to" for developers. sadly the only example of the ACR in the wild is the Polish MSBS-5.56 Radon which is pretty much as far as the firearms community is concerned; is a completely different weapon (regardless of the similarities).
I know historically the GR series will use a prototype weapons for its feature weapon (the XM8 in GR2, Mk16 and 17 in GR2:SS, the MRC and Beretta RX4 in GRAW 1 and 2) and i guess the point is to show that specialized units get all the good stuff first, but if it never even reaches the field test phase; does it count?
I guess my point is,with all these weapons out there that are actually being adopted or field tested by units why are guns like the ACR even being considered for inclusion?

I don't know much about the Mil/LE version of the ACR, but I know that the civilian variant from Bushmaster was a complete flop, thanks to Bushmaster. First we hear about the Masada, and it's a great rifle that was supposed to come in at a decent price point. Then when Bushmaster finally launches it, it's way too heavy and way way too expensive. Then they promised caliber conversion kits and those never came. So it sort of just died out. Though Remington has made changes to it, made it better. Though, I don't see the US Military getting rid of the M16/M4 any time soon, if anything, they will just bring in more SCARs. Personally I would love to see more FN SCARs and HK 416/417s. This way we could get some pretty cool weapons and ones that are actually seeing service.
I never liked ACR anyway, but I do admit it looked really cool, I prefer SCAR-H, HK 416/417, and that Desert Tech MDR, the latter in 7.62, although .300 Blackout is also cool
Ghost Recon has this concept as being the best SF available, if you really want to prove your rifle is the best rifle ever, of course give them to the best SF in the field to test them instead. and that is why we see stuffs like ACR, PDR-C/D, AK-200(now AK-12 if I remember correctly), and they do looked awesome, that's why they're in the game. Still, many of the cool guns didn't make into GR too, like Desert Tech SRS(the shortest sniper rifle ever), Desert Tech MDR(not yet sold, but neither the PDR-C/D), AAC Honey Badger, MPX, Pindad SS2 V5A1, MSBS Radon(?) and a whole lot more, and to be honest, I'd rather see those guns in game than ACR.
I would love to see the SRS in the game. It is such a great rifle. A tad bit expensive but I love mine. I also ave a bit of trigger time on an MPX and I think it is probably the best SMG/pistol carbine I have ever shot. I've never really played with the SMGs in GR games, but it would be cool to have.Originally Posted by StealthTallyFox Go to original post
SRS is in GRPhantoms, and believe me, it was a REALLY great gun before pocket warriors are in, I never tried it in real life but 338. Lapua Magnum would be a real kicker on it, for SMG, I don't play GR older than GRFS too much, but in GRFS and Phantoms, it's actually quite good, really good, I recommend P90 or MP7 if it's in game since everytime, those 2 have great control and mobility, decent range and damage, and really high ROF. I'd stick with rifles though(please Ubi put in Desert Tech MDR in 7.62 NATO)Originally Posted by jeannaq Go to original post
We're talking about a black ops special forces unit here. Unless you've served in every single one of those units there's really no way anyone can say what they have and have not fielded. Special forces units basically get free reign on what kind of equipment they can use.
Also, a lot of this stuff is just "cool". Video games are meant to be fun before anything else, so they compromise some things in authenticity for fun and vica-versa. Everything is a balancing act in this regard of video game development.
