When you did the reinstall or first install were you asked to download Directx 9.0c. You need this to play SH4 and 5. Make sure you have Directx 9.0c installed on your computer.
I know there are newer Directx versions out there but having a newer version does not include some of the files found in Directx 9.0c.
Not sure if this will help but it is something to check.
You can get Directx 9.0c download here.
My Sister just got Windows 10 and I am setting up her computer. I ran across a web site that explains how to get older games working with Windows 10.
One thing they show is how to install Directx 9.0c into Windows 10. It is a bit different then Windows 7.
Another thing they show is how to enable Direct Play which is needed with Directx 9.
The site is called dosgamers. The web page that has the Directx 9 and Enable Direct Play instruction can be found by clicking here.
Hmm , same basic problem game wont start , starting video plays and no sound (game downloaded from Ubisoft/Uplay) . All my other games start/play . Windows 8.1 pro , x99 system , etc .
Funny it does not even show the test to "verify files" as do other installed Uplay games ...wierd .
Have you tried going over to the Subsims web site. They are a bit more involved in the game then we are here.
Subsims Silent Hunter 5 site is here.
Go to Subsim. They actually care about the game, have the mods you need...NEED...to run the game, and have a workaround for the Steam version since Usuck (formerly Uplay) doesn't seem to want to work. Also it's sad when the mod community has to FINISH CODING THE GAME for a developer.
In short, redeploy to Subsim and SimHQ.
I have a very similar problem with SH5 and Uplay. I have Windows 10. SH5 has worked fine just a few days ago. I have had the game for years, and it's been a year since I last used it (a few days ago). I had uninstalled it last year, and uninstalled Uplay also at that time. I had no issues re-installing SH-5, but the most current version of Uplay would not run (it told me it would not work with my operating system and to load an older version, which I did). It still would not run. I found the game launcher did work if I ran the exe directly from the Ubisoft folder. The game loaded and worked fine. I then tried to load a few MODS I had used before. A few MODS worked, others that had worked before were not working. I could not find a solution, so I tried a clean install from Steam, and removed then re-installed Uplay. Now, I have the same problem as described above (SH5 movie runs, but after it exits with no error. It does play the movie sound, though). It does this with no MODS loaded, and all file integrity checked clean by Steam.
I have no idea at this point what to do. Maybe it's a registry error, since it worked a few days ago on the first install (except for having the Ubisoft game launcher issue, which I worked around as described above).
Any ideas? Sub Sim is no help with this problem.![]()
I had the same problem than Chris and tried, w/o success, to apply the suggested solutions. I solved the problem (at least for me) but as so often with computers I donīt konw why. What I did is that after the intro ran and the game page was displayed (where it has the start button) instead of clicking on that button I clicked on "Back to Games" (a little bit up and to the left). My games library was displayed (it only has SH5). I clicked on the pic for SH5 and it started running the intro w/ sound and in full screen and then continuing to the game start screen.
