Welcome to the forums, SevereSpartan! This is a great idea. Thank you for the suggestion, I'll make sure the developers consider it.

    Ideas for Sword Customizations

I agree with weapon customization and as a creative individual would make some suggestions in that regard.

    Swords
The sword is the icon of war, the weight of a sword is more than just its physical weight but its mental weight. Those who bear swords, bear it in mind with a single purpouse, to slay and kill others. As such the sword grants this weight of character to its wielder a symbol of power bringing with it status, and rank. The weight of the sword is the weight of all of those whom it defends, and the honor of ones name. Yes their very life, can be determined by their blade.

    1) Fuller: Selecting the fuller of the blade, the indented line that runs down some swords, some blades have thick ones, some thin, and some even have double fullers, the same can be said for some katana. And even chinese blades like the Dadao.

    2) Teeth: the idea behind teeth on a sword blade is to puncture armor like a pick-axe would, and apply deeper cuts in the draw motion. I reccomend options of 1-3 sets of spaced out teeth set along the middle of the sword.

    3) Blade Thickness: Some people prefer a thinner more realistic blade style while some prefer the thicker more fantastical blade style, by being able to select the thickness you can satisfy both desirable features with a simple pick your preference option of [Thin] [Medium] or [Thick].

    4) Scabbards: New scabbards would make for a tantilizing unlockable feature for players, unlocking new scabbard appearances through a leveling system would encourage players to play more games even after the initial "new game smell" wears off. The basic scabbard should be a standard unmarked wood and leather sheath, unlockables should include imprinted leather, solid wood, or even metalwork fittings to really show of the warriors mettle.

    Axes
The axe represents more than savagery it is an idea, the blade of an axe is meant to fell trees, trees which can be used to build homes and feed fires, the blunt of the axe can drive in nails or even hammer out other tools. And its simplicity means anyone can use it. The axe represents all of the qualities needed to raise a family as such, it is a symbolic tool not just an instrument to harm others with.

    1) Spikes: The simplest modification for a weapon, add a spike on top to inflict extra damage with thrust, or on the back to give an armor piercing option to your weapon play.

    2) Hafts: The haft is the handle which holds the metal head of an axe, these were often made in quantity alongside new axe heads, each haft is hewn from wood in a different fashion depending on the woodworker and branded with their own mark. By offering players a selection of branded hafts you can add to their immersion in the game.

    Shields
Shields while not my cup-o-tea are a very personal symbol, they can bear the crest of ones house, nation, or clan. Its as symbolic as their flag. As such shields can be unique in not only how they are reinforced but also how they are decorated.

    1) Reinforcement: Adding iron to a wooden shield helps it hold together in the heat of battle, unlike a sword it is better to use iron for a shield as it can bend and twist to the blows of melee weapons where Steel might shatter. This also helps keep the wooden planks a shield is made from intact. Some classic variations in Reinforcement include the simple ring, the X pattern, horizontal bars, spikes for a blood-letter, and any of the previous combined with the Circular iron rim, and lastly the full Iron sheet which is a sheet of iron wrapped over a wooden shield, the wood helps absorb the impact, while a solid steel sheild would ring and transfer the brunt of the blow to ones arm.

    2) Paint: Being able to paint a symbol or even adding a simple mark like two lines to the shield makes the item more personal to the shield bearer.

    3) Hides: Slapping an animal skin over your shield is a custom, the hides can be painted in advance and more easily replaced over a damaged weapon, and if properly laquered offer greater defense without adding too much weight to the shield.

    Pole-arms
Spears, Pikes, Halberds whatever their name these are the simplest to use of all weapons, the infantry-mans best friend as when used in unison the pole-arm is a supreme tool of conquest, allowing many soldiers to strike in unison a single foe or many, the wooden pole being easily replaced, and easily forged. They allow one to strike from a distance with thrusts and hacks to penetrate even armored targets. And brace to plant their weapon in the ground to bite deep into a charging horse or overconfident opponent. If the sword is the king of all weapons, the Pole-arm is the Queen.

    1) Decoration: Some pole-arms possessed tassels to distract opponents, others had engravings in the wood or metal, and some were painted in the colors of their kingdom. This would add personalization to any pole-arm one possessed

    2) Type: There are many variations in pole weapons throughout history, pikes, halberds, guan-dao, naginata, and the simple spear. All deadly in their own special way. Being able to customize ones weapon to their liking not only encourages them to learn more about the different pole-arms, but adds to the individuals comfort.

Donno if you guys've seen it, but looking at the released screenshots, the swords do differ wildly in their decoration. It's not confirmed, but I think there is going to be customization.

If it were an EA game I'd speculate on card packs and these packs would be royally overpriced and contain very ****ty weapons with like a good one in 1 in every 100 packs or so.

Sure hope that's not the case, though something like the system in Warframe wouldn't be bad. Where you can craft items with in game currency, or decide to buy them with actual currency should they prove too difficult to craft.

I highly doubt it, if there is weapon "crafting" it will look amazing, comparing to what the armor looked like in-game.
