    Dark zone griefing?

How does one defend themselves against a non rogue player/ group that waits by the extraction? You cant shoot them before they shoot you, or else you go rogue yourself.

Is this how its meant to be or am I missing a crucial mechanic?

Yes I know exactly what you mean. If your running solo, you will have to be patient and extremely carefully. And try to extract your gear at LZ's that are unoccupied. But the absolute best bet is to have teammates in your squad that can help fend off would be jackers.....Good luck.

1)Throw grenades, it might scare them off, and grenades don't one hit kill pvp players.
    2) Just go rogue, its only a Beta, i'm sure they'll implement something for the main release, that sorts out that prob-maybe along the lines of:if you're in the extraction area, you can kill enemy players up to a certain distance, without becoming rogue

You don't shoot them. You identify yourself as a friendly and hope they don't kill you. This is the entire mechanic of the DZ. If you're going to shoot at every player you see, you better have a good squad to back you up or you're going to be put down fast. Similarly, if you're out there alone, you don't get to make the rules.

And don't give in to the tools that shoot at your feet trying to egg you on to shooting them and making YOU go rouge when you defend yourself. Though the best satisfaction is taking out the high-value rogue that stole your stuff. Lots of good XP there.
