OPERATION VILLA- My Latest (and possibly last) map- Months in the making

    Hi everyone,

It has been a while since last posting a map here. The reason is my latest creation has taken me a very long time and I've been busy. Sorry for the long post.

From concept, to design, to development and finishing it has taken me many months to construct this beast.

I have designed a level where you are a special forces agent(s) infiltrating a large opium smuggling fortress situated in the upper midlands of the Himalayas, whilst all in the cover of darkness.

The original design idea came from previous creations back on Far Cry Instincts and Predator, of making epic landscapes surrounding a big valley or gorge, with a glider to cut straight down to the other end.

As Far Cry does open-ended game-play well- that is always the forefront of my design. It put the choices in the players hands of how you want to tackle the situation, from stealth to action or somewhere in between. There are at least 9 different ways you can approach the Fortress and many ways to escape too. It is designed to look beautiful, but to be practical too with fluidity throughout.

I have realised from other map makers you can really push the map editor beyond it's normal limits and make something more special, especially on the PC. This level is designed to push the boundaries; with many AIs and objects and most of the map space is used, so a good computer is recommended.

Co-op is naturally integrated by having many ways to approach the situation and the level is almost split down the middle so a pincer attack is easily possible.

Of course, my level is probably not without fault, the difficulty level is quite high, as I expect people still playing Far Cry know the game well and hopefully enjoy the challenge. The level is designed to be replayed with each experience being different.

Below I have posted pictures and a YouTube video that previews the map. I couldn't show everything as there's just too much, so please explore when you play it.

Here are a few tips and hints for when you play:

    • Exploration is rewarded, many items and herbs are scattered in the level to be found. Hopefully the level is fun to explore too.
    • Watch out for the snipers, there are 2 guarding and will take you out quite easily if you're not careful.
    • There are 4 alarms to be aware of, I'll let you find these yourself.
    • There are some destructible objects, that may open up new areas or routes.

Great map Magadite! I played this on AKAFootloose's recommendation's as "one of the best I've played"... well.. he was dead right - the ground work - the pathways, climbs, humps and bumps - are very detailed and very well done - it all drifts by, un-noticed, until one realizes this was all "created" by the author... Making a "real" world.. that takes real skill: it's like art - not everyone can paint: The layout is believable, the buildings chosen and put together in the right, logical places, with the AI quantity and position also seeming "just right". Played it four times and it's now on my "Favorites list.
    Many Thanks.
