Getting the rider to drive a custom vehicle.
Hi all,
So, I have built a vehicle and I would like the rider to be in it but I have no idea if this is possible. I've tried to use dummy objects attached to the rider with point to points then glue the objects to the vehicle but when the vehicle moves it seems either the Glue Joints or the Point to Points are stretching, causing the rider to appear to be lagging behind the movement of the vehicle. which is affects the movement of the vehicle as the rider is either pushing or pulling it (and sometimes the whole thing just goes nuts and flies into the air in a mess of wheels and limbs!) Has anyone managed to or know how I can achieve this? Also, is it just me or is it impossible to attach anything to the riders hands?
Thanks in advance for any help you awesome people can provide.

Do you ave it set so the dummy joints physics activates also check if you have any object you may be using for the vehicle set to the correct position in its properties, set them all to no contact. Hópē that help

maybe setting the object's weight to minimum and disabling world's gravity on it and leaving the gravity at 0 can help, but i never tried this

Thanks for the help guys. Funktastic, All the physics for the objects and joints I'm using is active and set to no contact. I have had a little more luck using an OPE to place the dummy objects on the vehicle, but it still isn't perfect. I haven't tried setting the weight to 0 yet, I'll give it a shot next time I'm on RaketeAal. I think I'm getting close, this one could just be a case of tweaking until I get it right. I'll post updates as I go.
Thanks again people, it's much appreciated.

Your welcome dude but Rak may have it the nail on the head
Keep us informed bud an will try to help more if poss , actually doing it is pretty simple but explaining how it works is for me complicated lol.

Hey regular jay, did you get it figured out? A couple of things that may help. First off, it sounds to me like part of the rider is not in the physics bubble. When you push "play" in the editor, everything works with the physics, but when testing the actual track, the physics actions must be inside the physics bubble. This may be why the rider is getting twisted around, he is not completely in the bubble. Also, when you do getting it working, you must rotate the dummy objects glued to the rider along with the car turning, or the rider will still face the direction of the last physics reset, or checkpoint. This will make him twist in the car, and eventually get tied in a knot. lol.
Also, about connecting physics joints to the riders hands, you must be on the Rabbit. The larger bikes have too many physics items on them and you can't get to the riders hands. Hope this helps.

Hi SwampBalls. Thanks for the advice.
Unfortunately I haven't figured this out yet. I've been a bit busy at work this week so I haven't really had much of a chance to get on. I briefly done some tweaking with some object properties/weights as per RaketeAal's suggestion. It's getting closer but it's still not great by any standards.
I'll try some of your suggestions next time i get on. So that's how to select hands, cool, but I fear adding two more dummy objects at this point may confuse matters even more. Does the physics bubble not follow the game character? If not is there a way to attach the physics bubble to a character and do you have any tips on making sure the whole rider is inside it? Yeah, I think I've managed to get the rider/dummy objects to turn with the vehicle, I've used Get Vector variables and OPEs to position the rider (rider's dummy objects) in the vehicle and these seem to be working ok (I could be wrong though). Anyway, I'll probably get more time to spend on it in the next few weeks. Apologies for the lack of progress but I fear that this may ne slightly too ambitious for my level of skill with the editor.
As I said though, I will keep you posted with any progress I do make.
Take it easy folks.

Why are you using Dummy objects? Just Joint the rider to the vehicle. Set the Joint toughness/durability/whatever to max and use the Hard preset.
@SwampBalls If the rider is Unconscious and not locked to the DL, he'll move freely with whatever he's jointed to. Otherwise, he moves with the bike.

Ah Jolan I love your explanations, you make it all sound so easy lol

It's probably due to my lack of skills in the level editor department Jolan. I used the dummy objects because I tried to just attach the rider to the vehicle but was unsuccessful, so I watched a tutorial about manipulating the rider which used dummy objects so I thought this was how It was done. My problem was positioning the rider on the vehicle. What joints would you use? I tried point to points then sliders and the rider just fell off/through the vehicle around the pivot points. It's likely that that was down to me not understanding joints & all the settings properly. If you have a video or more detailed instructions that would be great, but just knowing that it's possible to do in this way will help. Cheers for the advice man.
