Although can go wrong with Razer. Don't buy Tiamat, the mic will break in 2 weeks.

Don't buy ANYTHING from Razer, period. My H7 Razer Kraken broke in 2 months.

Go for a 7.1 headset... With it you'll be able to hear sounds above and below, very useful.

I have done quite a bit of research about headphones and have previously used Steelseries, and my last set was sennheiser 350s using a Asus Xonar xense amped sound card. Irecently purchased the Kingston Hyper X Cloud and these have been the best of the lot. You can get them from Amazon fro around £60, bang per buck. you cannot beat these. Check the reviews.

I have the hyperclouds. Amazing headset for the money. I was surprised by the quality of sound and the quality of the build.

I've heard that the sound on these is not as good as the older TB headsets, and they feel really cheap plastic wise.

I use AKG K550 + a Ant lion mod mic so I can not only use them for gaming but also my everday music needs.

The greatness of the mod mic is you can just plug that mic to pretty much any headphones you want.
So get a great quality headphone and put that mod mic on it! ;D

One thing to take into account is that most "surround sound" headphones do not use actual surround sound, with multidirectional speakers in the headset.

Why?

Because the speaker size makes them sound like crap.

Most headphones these days use simulated surround sound, which is sent to a set of high quality stereo headphones.

Therefore, while it's easy to tell which direction the sound is coming from on the X and Z planes (left, right, in front, behind) it becomes naturally difficult to tell where the sound is coming from on the Y plane (above, below).

That said, it is possible to tell where the sound is coming from by paying close attention to which direction the sound is originating from. If if you stand in a stair well, is it coming from the left stairs (going down) or right stairs (going up).

There are also subtle audio differences in footsteps that originate above you or below you. Learn to listen for the difference and it becomes easier to tell where your opponents are.

To get a full surround sound experience, just buy the Xbox One gamepad adapter, or else a simulated surround sound amplifier.

Things will sound way better than any of the cheap, crappy headsets manufactured by "gaming specific" companies (like Astro, Turtle Beach etc) -- all of which suffer from TERRIBLE quality control issues and will need to be replaced in 2-3 years.
