DISCLAIMER: Writing this as of December 2015 after having seen the youtuber invites to L.A for the pre-alpha. I apologise if any of this has been considered and rejected or is in the alpha release but has yet to have media coverage.
Concept - I notice there are going to be one handed clubs/axes but what is the tactical difference between the two, we have damage and speed but what about a third option.
A Shield was a common item used in conjunction with a single handed weapon from the Neolithic period onwards, it would be reasonable to assume they were used in the Mesolithic it is just sufficient evidence has never been found or academics are still deliberating on it. These shields would often be made of hide over a frame, carved wood or even large turtle shells (a good use for turtle shells or crocodile hide), rhino hide would be good too.
In terms of game mechanics the shield could be an add-on to the single handed club/axe or even spear and just present itself in Takkars left hand, essentially by manoeuvring the body one can take hits on the shield if programmers did not want and/or had insufficient time to create a new model mechanic. On enemies it could essentially make them an upgraded heavy opponent or supplement that.
Rationale: To substantiate a separate tactical reason for utilising a single handed weapon besides speed, where two handed weapons while slower have damage and durability.
