Hey all,
I've just been marathoning a bunch of youtube vids on The Division and I've only seen people crouching when snapping to cover.
Now the lack of crouching drove me absolutely insane when playing Mass Effect 2, enough people complained about it and it got added back into ME3. The amount of times I'd died because I couldn't just duck in that moment an enemy popped around a corner and just dropping that 1ft lower would save my life. Now I don't care about prone, that doesn't work for this kind of game, but honestly, not being able to bend my damn knees at will is a massive turn off for me.
In one of the vids I saw the commentator mentioned crouching was context sensitive, so, basically cover only.
In most open world games, especially those with PvP, I spend most of my time crouched, I have a lower profile, I'm harder to see and much harder to hit, without this I just feel like I'm being forced into being vulnerable for no good reason.
If it's not a feature for the game, I want to fight loudly for it, the simple fact that even speculation in a single youtube video is enough for me to QQ on the forums about it just shows how much I think it's important.
Thoughts?
No crouching or prone position as of yet, but as you said, you can take cover.
I'm with you though, crouching is an advantage the most decent FPS/TPS players take advantage of, having to stand upright then run for cover might become an annoying aspect of the game, but only time will tell. I, personally, have never liked the mechanic whereby you're forced into cover and have to move in cover to a certain position in order to get line of sight, it normally feels so rigid and forced. The number of times you're unable to to move correctly and have to readjust can be very annoying.
I'm hoping this won't the case with The Division, fingers crossed.
The ability to crouch walk/crouch slow jog is a must, in my opinion. I'd like to be able to position objects between myself and other players in an effort to block line of sight, affording myself a much higher chance of successfully getting close to them before being spotted. I not only feel, but know, this would be much harder to accomplish if my character can only move in a standing position. I've ambushed more than a few players in games like Arma, DayZ, Breaking Point, etc. by using this tactic and I think it would add an extra element of danger and tension if it can be used in The Division, as the urban landscape afford far more in the way of waist high objects than an open field. It'd make places like streets full of cars abandoned at odd angles all over the street not only favourable positions for an ambush/gun battle, as there's lots of nice cover, but it'd also make for a great place to slip by people that you don't want to fight.
If crouching isn't a thing in this game, it really, really ought to be.
The ability to lower my stance at will is an absolute must for me for this kind of game. Feels especially odd to not be able to just crouch to make myself a smaller target out in the open if I was being engaged out in the open and would have to run a mile just to search for cover so that I can avoid fire. This game is no longer regarded as "tactical" if this is the case.
Wow. That is pretty sad. Felt like I got gutted hard by this fact.. Ah well. Now I'm just going to keep thinking how silly this game is..Originally Posted by JokerUnique Go to original post
Absolutely, core "tactical" gameplay requires you to have full control over your character, if you can't do something as simple as crouching then you're designing your game wrong. It's not like it's even hard to implement for them and only adds to the immersion of the game. When you're scoping somewhere out, you almost always take a knee and not being able to move up to cover while crouching is just weird. They should send the dev team out paintballing, they sure as hell won't just be casually jogging around standing upright the entire time.Originally Posted by Hiryuusen Go to original post
Yeah, we already know you can take cover, it's in my first sentence :POriginally Posted by JokerUnique Go to original post
Prone doesn't need to be in, it doesn't fit the dynamic as it's a completely different form of movement, but crouching is just such a basic shooter mechanic... there's just no excuse for not having it.
As stated above, crouching in this type of game is needed. Ducking behind cover provides good static protection, but when moving your just so vulnerable without having the ability to crouch or lower your stance...not to mention the effect it will have on your stealth while approaching an enemy.
I do hope that crouching will be implemented in the near future. Still stoked about the game though in the mean time.
I'm guessing it may be too late for it, but will that function be added into the game at a later date before release?Originally Posted by JokerUnique Go to original post
I brought this up a good while back, the game would benefit from it.
It would also add immersion sneaking around the world avoiding enemies and picking your battles which brings up stealth kills a mechanic that was dropped.
it's the same cover to cover system from WD and SCBL. I never used in those games because i didn't like it, at least WD had the low profile stance when entering a mission area. It's better than nothing.
This is currently by biggest concern for the game hopefully it can be worked in.
