I'm sure there is a solid community of players that would agree that the concept of split-screen/couch COOP is not dead.
This is a feature that I personally, and many friends of mine have enjoyed and used in previous Ghost Recon titles, and other Ubisoft Tom Clancy titles such as Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six. The very fact that more and more games are being released on an online-only COOP/multiplayer is sad in my opinion. Yes, internet is getting faster and more widely available, but it is not the same gaming experience as being able to sit in the same room as your friend(s).
We live in an age where it's becoming less and less of associating with people on a physical level, everything is becoming more and more digital. I believe that playing a game with friends should allow gamers for it to be a "social" event, not over microphones and cameras.
If the option of split-screen/couch COOP is possible to include, PLEASE do. Too many games lack this feature now.
I am completely with you guys on this. Me and my brother in law would love to get together and play some split screen but almost none of my new games allow this and it is driving us crazy! I really really miss those days where I would get together with a ton of friends and we'd all play together on the same console in the same room on the same TV.
I do hope that split-screen is included for you console guys! It's a nice feature to have for those that would enjoy the "local cooperative / couch co-op" play.
Everything you just said is wrong. The whole core concept of the game as presented to us so far is a campaign. Literally all we have seen so far is campaign.Originally Posted by sittlad197 Go to original post
This game does have a campaign, it's played by yourself and three other members of your Ghost team. If you're not playing online with friends (or strangers, I don't judge), then the three other members of your squad are simply made up of three friendly AI. There is an over-arching story to this game.
So many great memories dating all the way back to Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark on the Nintendo 64 for play with friends. Picture this a 23 inch TV and 4 player split screen on Perfect Dark. Just the thought of that would make so many new gamers have a rage induced heart attack. However those are some of my best memories with friends. We need more and more developers doing this.Originally Posted by Cortexian Go to original post
I know I have to fire up GRAW 1 and 2 for split screen with my brother and I hope this game will offer split screenOriginally Posted by Maqic Man 720 Go to original post
Lower overall fidelity of the game back in the day helps. When you pack the high fidelity and graphically packed scenes of today's games into 1/4 the resolution they were designed to be played at you pretty much can't see ANYTHING. That much detail, compressed to a smaller region, basically just blurs everything together.Originally Posted by jeannaq Go to original post
You'd think that, and although it takes some getting used to, it still works. I split screen a very recent title with Mrs VorTechS in online PVP successfully - it just usually means moving my tired old eyes closer to the TV!Originally Posted by Cortexian Go to original post
It works, but if playing against people who AREN'T splitting the screen, you're handicapping yourself more than anything. Again, for the cooperative play modes I see zero issues... Issues arise when you put adversarial modes into the mix.
To illustrate my point visually, here's a challenge for you. The following image is 1/4 the resolution of 1080p (imagine 4-way split-screen on a modern 1080p TV). Click the image to view the full 1/4 resolution and count how many "bad guys" (everyone other than the good guy) there are in the frame. Then, once you think you've spotted them all, compare to the linked full resolution image and see if you spotted every single one. I very much doubt you'll spot them all, and moving closer to a TV wouldn't help in this case, you'd just be making pixels larger.
