I think the thing about these types of clues is that most people can't really contribute anything other than "I tried playing it but I don't recognize it," which a lot of people (myself included) don't find worth making a post over. No amount of cleverness or speculation can overcome that it's something you either recognize or you don't. Frankly I'm kind of concerned this won't be a very popular week if what's certainly the guitar solo is so elusive to this many people, but then again we might all be somehow overlooking something obvious.

I don't see the right answer yet, gang, sorry. This band was heavily requested, though based on this thread, perhaps not by the folks who frequent our forums!

Here's a hint: Some people would call this material metal, some people might not. But you can't make the band's name without it.

    And no, it's not Metallica.

The reason this one was so hard to find is that most transcriptions on the net are in Drop C, but the lead chart must be in Drop D or E standard.

    HTML Code:
    tab excerpt from ultimate guitar:
    D|-----------------------------------------------------
    A|----------7-----------------9-10-9-----9----------14-
    E|-----------------------9-11---------11---13/14-16----
    C|-5b6-6b7------9-11-12--------------------------------
    G|-----------------------------------------------------
    C|-----------------------------------------------------

Moved up whole step and moved a couple of notes to a different string:
    e|---------------------------------------------------------
    B|------------------------------------------------------12-
    G|----------9------------7-9-11-12-11--9--11---11/12-14----
    D|-3b4-4b5------7-9-10-------------------------------------
    A|---------------------------------------------------------
    D|---------------------------------------------------------
