Please do not listen to the old-timers/ avoid these things

I only registered to bring this message.
    for the time being...

For the sake of healthy game, there a few things that are do's and don't by looking at actually successful/ popular games.

    For the record,
my generation: aka. the old-timers - does not understand what makes a great game great these days. They only think about themselves, emphasizing either a ridiculous Quake-arena-jump-strafe-around-at-light-speed-very-high-ttk environment OR a-utterly-boring-and-stale-realism-camp-fest-simulator-where-sitting-still-is-grossly-over-rewarded.

This group of people is unfortunately the loudest, and they do not represent the majority of players either - as complainers is this minority attempting to change the game to their way of liking unlike people who might actually enjoy it. You rarely see commendations for a game other than the review(s) itself as people would rather spend their time enjoying it instead of writing about it, because they can.

The thing about Call of Duty for example: Is that it is actually skill based and rewards individualism, unlike many other shooters attempting to step up.
Sure it has a few issues, but it is mainly all about the concept.

    1. Stay away from obnoxious rock-paper-scissors concepts dubbed 'team-work'.
    - This is where most online-games go wrong, as at the end of the day: most people play for themselves; as often enough your friends are not online or you don't have much time.
In some games, you don't want to play at all - if you end up solo.
A game is not fun when a tiny fragment of the lobby is dominating just because they hold the pieces of A, B and C together.
Pubs are often uncoordinated, and sure - you might have a good game when similar people match up against each other, but having matchmaking solve this issue is often difficult.

They key aspect here is kit-versatility, as you do not want to end up in situation where you can absolutely do nothing. In many games you either join the stomping side, or change server. Having penalties for leaving, is not the solution for a meaningless game.
for example: in Call of Duty, you can gimp several parts of your kit and pick up the tools you need, if you have to.

It is possible to deal with this in multiple ways, but it's mainly about avoiding having a single situation ultimate only: Shotguns and Sniper Rifles.
For example: allowing SMG's and Shotguns as side-arms with very high swap-to penalty, or have a weaker category of them: machine-pistols/ PDWs, breaching- or light- shotguns, marksman rifles/ DMRs which you can pair accordingly.

By all means reward teamwork, but do not have the game-plan revolve around it.

Take the latest iteration of Battlefield for example. With a Shotgun you are forced to sit inside a building of the map all day and can't go anywhere else, whereas with a sniper rifle you are forced to stay far away from objective. In either case, there's no point in trying with a weak team - as your counter-part wins by default.

    2. The WW-2 style infantry role is totally over-done, whether it portrayed as the present or not.
    - The thing about not focusing on the future, is that everything else ends up being pale as it is totally over-done - and gameplay/ gunplay will be very predictable.
It's more about inventing proper gadget counter-parts, in most cases.
There's also a reason why perks and proficiencies is such a huge part of many entertaining online games, as people attempt to exploit situational advantages for their style of play in order to their tide of the war. Everyone wants to differentiate themselves to stand out among the crowd, and it's just a part of it.

The only one's who oppose perks and and proficiencies are those people who have a set style of playing, as they only want to play with people having their same style of play, as they're afraid others overwhelming them/ disrupting what they've been practicing most of their lifetime. They simple cannot adapt to modern successful games.

In the end, be creative, and create something unique, however do not do something that is already been done a million times already, but take note of what is successful.

That will be all for now,
    Raven.
