I was looking at the game's trailer and noticed that hunting seems to be a big part of the game, so I was wondering about this mechanic. Most games just have some variation of constantly damaging the prey until it dies, but this is inaccurate. In history, people would actually use something called endurance hunting to kill their prey. They would literally just walk towards their prey until it became incapacitated from exhaustion. Humans have insane endurance, so this method would leave them healthy and ready to eat. This would be amazing in your game. You could introduce this game by either having animals be gradually hurt by running away from a hunter, or you could have them have a stamina meter and once it depletes they are slowed and their attacks hurt less. I am no game designer, but it would be cool to see this implemented in a game. It would add to the games uniqueness and its gameplay. If you can do this, I would like to see it.
I'm thinking one aspect of hunting the bigger beasts like mammoths will be by using fire to sort of corral them in certain directions and trap them in areas they can't escape. Set fire to the brush to startle them into running the direction you want and trap them in a narrow valley or something... that'd be cool if they could get that to work as well...
Hunting this way (mostly by native americans when involving horses or south sahel tribes for antelopes) involve group hunting during at a long period of time, most of the time during a day/half a day at least. Humans broke horses like these by preventing them from resting but also feeding and drinking. But we're talking about 10000 BC. A time where man was no extraordinary hunter, just a piece of the foodchain. Men could not afford to hunt this way back at this time, and even now in most parts of the globe. For example, you don't find that kind of hunt in eastern africa or in south america: you got to have both the terrain and the absence of local predators that would challenge you for the prize. So if Masais don't actually do such type of hunting (mostly because of highly efficient competitors like hyenas, african wild dogs and lions), imagine prehistoric hunters doing the same at a time where the preys and competitors where bigger. Back at this time period, we solely had a stick with some cut stone at the end, a far from obvious threat for a pack of wolves, a bear and its pelt/grease armour or any other animal. We had to be quick and fast not to freeze out in the snow or attract another predator.
