Cant hear any sound in game

    hi everyone.

i dont know if this quarry belongs here but it's the PC section so here goes:

im dog sitting by brother's dog at his house for a few weeks and i got his computer and games to myself while he's abroad.
he has an issue with Far Cry 4 he hasnt managed to solve yet - there is no sound in game.

i googled this issue and found suggestions to try changing the playback configuration from 5.1 to stereo or change the sample rate or to install directx 9.0c or the realtek drivers again... nothing works.
with the dx installation the installation detected a newer or equivalent version on this computer so it didnt install.
also i tried deleting the d3d files in system32 and in sysWOW64 but the computer told me that i needed administrator privileges for that, and i dont know how to circumvent this issue. besides, even if i DID know - i wouldnt know EXACTLY what files to remove and wouldnt want to damage my brother's computer.

My brother said that FC4 worked just fine before. he hasnt played it in a while and recently wanted to replay it and - poof. no sound in game. cinematics and logos make sound. nothing else does. not online nor offline.
He recently bought AC:Unity and this game works flawlessly. he said the rainbow six siege beta also worked fine.

    any ideas?!?

Check your Sound Settings IN WINDOWS

    right click your Speaker Icon

    select playback Devices

Select your realtek Audio ,make sure that's set to be the Default device and not a secondary device like HDMI audio from the AMD vid card

next right click the Realtek card select Properties

    Select Advanced

Set the Sound Sample rate to

16 Bit 96000 Hz Studio Quality or 16 Bit 44100 Hz Cd Quality

i would also say try to verify the game files

To verify your files if you bought the game thru Steam ..\EXIT Steam ..right click your steam icon ..select run as Administrator

    launch Steam

go to your Steam games library

right clik on far cry 4

    select properties

    select local files

select verify Integrity of game cache

it takes a few min to do but its faster the redownloading your entire game , if its only a few files that were corrupt or installed incorrectly .... this in many cases will fix your problems getting the game to start

If you have the U play only Version of the game you can also verify your game files with U play

if you have the game via u play only here are instructions how to verify your game files thru their client
Again its probably best to make sure you launch Uplay as RUN as Administrator when you do a file verify

thanks for the detailed respons mate.
sadly i already tried most of your seggestions but i kept googling and finally found the solution.

im posting it here in case someone else stumbles upon this problem and googles his way here:

what worked for me is the main solution posted in this thread in the first answer (removing some DX files from system32 and sysWOW64, then reinstalling the files from the game folder)
