I wonder if the mêlee system will be revamped...

It has to be. I mean there is no way you could have a setting where most of your weapons are clubs and rocks with the melee system we have had in the past few far cry games. It would just be horrid.

Yeah I agree. As much as I love machete stealth kills the actual melee is pretty terrible (seriously try slashing a few animals to death in FC4)

We'll need blocking (at the VERY least) and the ability to hit certain areas / pull off special attacks (knock them down, stagger them, force them to drop weapons, etc.). The built in hit location system though in Dunia 2 is not very robust (head, body and legs) so hopefully they will improve this substantially.

Ranged combat is not really bad in Far Cry. In fact bows are well honed after several games. The engine supports weight, drop, sound, impact force and a lot of other variables with missiles so thrown spears, harpoons and the like could be honed to work really well.

Not DIRECTLY related to combat but the AI and sensory system is also pretty badly implemented so if we're focusing on stealth, hunting and survival this area needs a LOT of attention. Especially if animals are going to be the focus. Their AI currently consists of "I see you ATTACK!" (makes beeline to player) -or- "Run Away! Run Away!".
Except for the big cats of course who also have "Wait for him to start scanning that outpost and now... SURPRISE MOTHERF^&*R!"

One of the best first-person melee combat systems I've ever seen in games was in a game called Condemned: Criminal Origins.

I hope FCP has a combat system like that. Maybe more refined, smoother.

Here's what the combat in Condemned was like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJhwL8Qv5gA
