The rich setting of the Stone Age only multiplies the amount of incredible stories and unique situations that Far Cry's open-world sandbox gameplay is known for.

There is a natural fit between this time period and the Far Cry franchise. The daily life of a Stone Age man could be boiled down to: gather resources, craft weapons, hunt, defend himself from the wild and other threats, and explore uncharted territories. All of these activities already form the core gameplay loop of a Far Cry game.

Furthermore, we always try to set Far Cry games in what we call 'frontiers', places where rules don't apply and only the strongest survive. The Stone Age is, in essence, the very first frontier.
Yeah you could have gone back to Africa (Farcry 2 didn't do it justice) you could have done far more, instead you choose to give us a Farcry that has lost one of it's most important core elements, gunplay. While this might appeal to a large number of people, I think those who are unhappy with the direction you have taken far outweighs those who think it's an interesting concept. I for one have 0 interest in running around a world with a sharp stick killing things. I am terribly dissapointed...

Well I'm just going to say it.

I personally think this is just about the greatest idea for a Far Cry anyone could possible come up with, I literally cannot be more hype. To everyone saying it should have bene a generic modern shooter in a dusty desert or grey city, well, there are more of those to shake a bone at. To anyone who wanted a Wild West version, the Red Dead series is essentially that. Even has animal attacks.

To me, personally, the reason I love Far Cry and the reason it isn't just generic shooter #122352 is because of the animals. In FC3, I've seen komodo dragons clear outposts and seen massive battles of soldiers and cassowaries. In what game other than Far Cry do you get wildlife that isn't just a setpeice? None, as far as I can remember. Far Cry 4 went even further, the animals not only interacted with humans but now with each other. Leopards will fight wolves, tigers fight bears. And the animations are absolutely superb!

So this brings me to why I personally think this is the greatest idea for the series. The Ice Age was the time when men just showed up. We had no fangs, no claws, no tusks, no armor. We lived in an era when there were bears the size of rhinos and sloths the size of elephants. Everything was either 10x our size or wanted us for dinner. And yet, because we stood together, sharpened a stick, made a fire and allied with wolves, we counquered the entire planet. Is that not the greatest success story ever? It sounds like fantasy, but it's the true story of how we got to this point.

Even in Far Cry 4 where there were Siberian Tigers and Snow Leopards every five feet, they were usually no more than a mere annoyance for heavily armed soldiers. But in an era where the most advanced technology is the Bow and arrow, and the tigers have blades for teeth, the tables turn. Rather than being a cool event, animals become powerful weapons.

Not sure if the developers ever read the forums or not, but I have a few questions I would like to know at least hints of answers to.

In FC4, we could throw chunks of meat to attract predators. It was an incredibly fun way to clear outposts, albeit time consuming. With this shiny new scent mechanic, will anything like that be happening?

In all of the Far Cry games, herbivores just kind of... suck. The predator will always catch them, and will always kill them. I always found in insane how in FC4 boars and yaks will mindlessly attack you, but when confronted with a wolf that is much smaller than them they just flee in panic. Here is to hoping some of the prehistoric herbivores can fight back, maybe even kill their aggressors.

I noticed that the deer model from the trailer is just the Sambar from FC4. Will this be changed? I liked the look of the primitive Megaloceros deer that was seen in the Cave Art.

Lastly, is there any chance of Giant Ground Sloths? Those are just too cool to skip past.

I am genuinely impressed. This is the most creative and innovative idea conceivable.... well done......

So I have high expectations now, maybe I am prone for disappointment now?!

However Far Cry Primeval already looks like a much bigger deal to me than ACS

    bad move ubisoft

no potential in this game. theme is no interesting, cavemen do not make good characters. sticks, stone, not fun to craft with. guns are fun, this game lacks that. it lacks everything that the other games had. who would buy this crap? this is a half-*** game intended for stupid consumers. guns are fun stones, clubs, bows spears suck..cavemen are stupid not good for a game. could have done so much better and you guys chose this crap instead. far cry 2 was good, 3 was also good, 4 was good as well, then you bring in stupid cave men. stick with modern themes and guns. seriously, what are you guys smoking? maybe put some effort into the next game. which means no stupid cave men. there are better options.

Speak for yourself; this has the potential to become my favorite Far Cry game yet!
Now granted, it's partly because I work at an archaeological museum which mostly focuses on prehistoric times, so the high interest in the setting is already there.
But also, I played FC3 and 4 almost exclusively stealthily with the bow and arrow and knife, and it seems this new game is gonna have to focus more on, and expand upon the stealth mechanics as we obviously won't have full automatic weapons.
Big win in my book, and I'm sure I'm not the only one!

So for the people complaining about the lack of guns and explosives: we just had Far Cry 3 and 4! PLENTY of guns and explosives!
It's good to change things up a bit. If Ubi released another FC game similar to 3 and 4, people would be complaining as well.

    You aren't the only one

I really respect the FC team for taking this route, considering lots of people won't like/buy the game, because it doesn't have modern guns and fancy explosions.
Keep your heads up developers! and stay true to your own visions. The opinions of these narrow-minded gamers have turned Assassin's creed into mediocreness already. Please don't make the same mistake.
