This is not the Far Cry we wanted..

First of all, I apologise if this may come across too negative, this is just my personal opinion and everyone may naturally disagree with it.

It is really great to see that the teams at Ubisoft are very creative and open to new themes but how is this a Far Cry game? I know that since Far Cry 3 introduced hunting and survival they have since become key aspects of the series which explains why a primal theme was chosen. However, I appreciate this franchise because it is a great "shooter" which offers me a huge arsenal of guns and vehicles in a open world in a present time (plus minus 100 years). I thought this franchise was a shooter? I really couldn't care less about sticks and stones. From all the interesting themes the developers could have picked they chose the least appealing (in my opinion). A Vietnam war or Mad Max style Far Cry would have been better candidates.
Maybe I am alone on this topic or maybe not. Please tell me what you think.

    Thank you,
    A concerned veteran

It's a Far Cry game! We have always crossed the boundaries of different genres, and this time is no different, Far Cry Primal has all the Far Cry you love: it is still the sandbox 1st person you’ve loved, with an all-new flavor and one of the most fresh and exciting settings we have visited.

The rich setting of the Stone Age only multiplies the amount of incredible stories and unique situations that Far Cry's open-world sandbox gameplay is known for.

There is a natural fit between this time period and the Far Cry franchise. The daily life of a Stone Age man could be boiled down to: gather resources, craft weapons, hunt, defend himself from the wild and other threats, and explore uncharted territories. All of these activities already form the core gameplay loop of a Far Cry game.

Furthermore, we always try to set Far Cry games in what we call 'frontiers', places where rules don't apply and only the strongest survive. The Stone Age is, in essence, the very first frontier.

This is the one I wanted because it just sounded so different. I never came to far cry for the shooting. I was always more enamored with the stealth exploration, and primal aspect, so this idea suits my taste just fine. It's a fairly unexplored time period, and I think the idea works as well for stealth as any other. The one big worry I have is if they will really get into the melee combat and find a way to do it that doesn't devolve into a QTE.

I still think this is to be considered a spin-off, with the real Far Cry 5 released in 2016 or 2017.

They say this is a full far cry, but I guess the meaning of spin off vs main game loses meaning when none of your games are really connected to each other.

i kinda agree with OP. while i understand what jason is saying about this STILL being a part of the FC DNA it also removes a lot of what was also a part of FC.

i really appreciate the change and i am really curious to hear more, BUT... i just cant seem to imagine how far the concept can take the game. i can imagine the only long range weapons are going to be hatchets, spears and bows. that's not a lot. and the game is likely to be a lot more about fighting beasts, which is a shame because beasts are not interesting compared to the human enemies - they dont fight as a smart group, they dont fire back, they dont take cover, dont throw grenades, dont use vehicles, dont communicated to eachother... they are just primitive AI that are also bullet spunges. i never liked shooting at something dumb like zombies or monsters or animals. never enjoyed hunting in FC either.
this trailer seems to indicate there is a lot more shooting at dumb big creatures than fighting against other clever humans, who get a nod at the end.

speaking of humans vs humans - i really hope there is a fun and creative melee combat system involved, otherwise - not interested.

the premise seems highly original. i give a LOT of credit to UBI for trying something really fresh. very few games went THIS far into the past.
however im not a believer in the concept as something i will be interested in.

I like the new direction of this game. I'm very curious about this game, because this age is very interesting for me and not it's the same like the previous games. I was very tired finding always the same, weapons that I can found in other shooters. This is different and I appreciate that.

    Thanks you

If Ubisoft cared about what people wanted, Far Cry 4 would have been a better game, Multiplayer would have been added into the map editor, and they wouldn't have had to feel like they should withold information about all that until launch

    I'm still unimpressed, Ubi.

I'm with you brotha! This is one Farcry we'll be skipping! I'm sorry to say I was a little dissapointed with Farcry 4 and was expecting something EPIC with FC5 and instead we get even more dissapointement! I was hoping for something based on what you've described or even possibly western days, with cowboys and indians and GUNS, horses, wagons, IDK something more FC'ish. This may be fun for some but common ubisoft are you trying to please "some" or "MOST" of your fans. I guess I'll let sales speak to that! I'm sure sales of FC Primal will be far less than the previous and WAY far less than FC3 (one of the best FC's in my opinion!). My hope is that you REALLY read what fans want, again I'm hoping for a western based FC for FC6, my entire family of 6 played the series but as I said before I'm sorry to say that's 6 sales that you've lost out on!
