Greetings. I've been flying offline trying to improve enough to join a coop server eventually. Trying to communicate with AI squadmates is frustrating at best (who has time to find the right keyboard number in a dogfight?), does anyone have suggestions for a better way to communicate offline? Mapping, or set-up tips would be very appreciated, thanks.

If you've got a headset, I'd suggest Shoot; a program that translates voice to game commands. look for a link in the Sturmovik essentials thread

Speech Reconignition program allows you to tell your AI squad what to do instead of typing or using the "tab" key to start with. I don't have the link, but I found it on Microsofts web site. Read it carefully and make sure you have what it needs already on your computer before you install the actual program. For example, if you want your wingman to stay with you, "cover" you, instead of pressing tab, 1, 1, you would just say "Wingman, Cover me". Hope this helps. S!

It's not a big deal. Just join the 'coop' server (you mean an online war like VEF / VOW, right?). There are new players in there playing with very experienced players, anyway. As long as you can take-off without crashing into people, you'll be fine.
Join a squad and you'll get the help you need.
(See the link below).
Basically, you can't map keyboard shortcuts for the AI menu. You could perhaps use joystick software to map a joystick button (if it supports multiple-input strings), but that would probably mean buying a new joystick.
I looked at the 'Shoot' option before, and installing 100mb (50mb compressed) of microsoft add-ons just to get a 500kb program to work didn't appeal to me. But here it is anyway: http://clans.gameclubcentral.com/shoot/

Thanks for the guidance and the reassurance-antifreeze- I guess I'm a little daunted by my experiences in DF servers, not the warmest reception, but I gather that's not off par for that course. Anyway, I'll d/l teamspeak when I have the time and give it a go. And maybe I'll see you online soon. Thanks again. Z
