    Far Cry 4 & Windows 10?

I have upgraded ram to 16 gb and my graphic is gtx 660, Pentium i5 4670 and display setting is at high by default. This game ran perfectly in Windows 8.1 before, but after fresh installation of Windows. The shadow area's are quite dark. Like if the sun is on the other side of the house, that side is completely bright and normal. However the back side of the house where the shadow is, its completely dark, same goes with mountains. I have started a new game and at the beginning the GP warrior throws a rope from top, I couldn't see anything it was pitch black. I had to keep on tapping E until Ajay grab the rope. I think its Windows 10 which is causing the problem. I have not downloaded any update for my game yet, I am playing it straight out of the disc. Also I have the latest nvidia drivers installed already. Any suggestions? Shall I try to reduce the graphic settings?

my guess its the nvidia drivers

shut off any and all gameworks features ..see this thread and also see the threads on the windows 10 drivers ..its a mess with an Nvidia card and windows 10 it seems for some people

    https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...-in-far-cry-4/

windows 10 driver feed back forum link is here

    https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...read-8-13-15-/

game runs crash free on my GTX 960 but i'm using win 7 still and an older nvidia driver (347.52)

i have all the nvidia game works options off
    my settings in game are

    res 1920 X 1080
    vsync - on

    quality settings
motion blur off - not a fan of it ..
    Textures - Ultra
    Shadows - High
    Post FX -Ultra
    Geometry - Very High
    Vegetation- Ultra
    Environment - Ultra
    water - Ultra
    ambient occlusion setting is SSBC
    and using SMAA for Antialiasing

god rays - off- not a fan of how it looks
    fur - off
    trees relief -off

    in advanced settings
    triple buffer - off
    Vsync mode - normal

any driver newer then 347.52 i keep getting lockups with my other games like the Witcher 3 (i'm guess that may be that my ASUS strix is a factory overclocked model is whats causing the errors in that game )

plus i saw A UBI TEch support person say that the game is not officially supported by windows 10 since the game was created before windows 10 came out http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...in-Windows-10?

I have several machines, all do different things for me, so the common things are, they must work, they must maintain identical operation with the same peripherals, and must work with all my installed software. The only way to guarantee that is to not upgrade.

To get around that, I purchased Win10 Pro Full Retail, and installed it as dual boot on my "gaming" machine. Of course I turned off all the privacy stuff (I don't need those features enabled), but other than that, it is a box stock install of Win10. Once installed, I downloaded the entirety of Far Cry 4 into the Win10 partition.

I have GTX 580 and have decided to trade frame rate for visual quality, V-syncing at 30Hz

On Win7, the game looks good, is essentially fluid, and with V-sync off I get 48FPS on a test scene...

On Win10, the game actually looks a bit better, but more importantly, it is perfectly fluid at 30Hz V-sync, and the same test scene gives 57FPS with V-sync off. The drivers are the same version.

So, the game runs fine on 10, noticeably improved. I can't wait for the next installment of Far Cry on DirectX 12. Actually, I owe it to myself to find other FPS games, the trouble is, good FPS' are far and few between and far too many otherwise good games are 3rd person perspective, which I loathe.

I'm at 35+% complete on the Win10 install, with not one single issue of any kind, so I think it's solid.

interesting i been holding off since i saw so many post issues with the Nvidia Drivers
i did put 10 on my laptop but that's not a gaming machine and has AMD graphics anyway (tho FC4 works on it @ about 20 FPS used to get 30 or better with win 8.1 with the 14.1? AMD drivers )

what Vid driver are you using for your 580 and do you have the gameworks features enabled ?
like soft shadows HBAO+ Nvidia enhanced god rays and Txaa ?

i may just go pick up a hard drive next week and try win 10 ..but for now i'm happy with my WIN 7 setup and don't plan on doing the free upgrade until a DX 12 game comes out i wanna play

Excellent! I will try to download all the patches, but damn so many patches and look at the gb. Also the Windows 10 that I have is Home premium 64 bit downloaded from Microsoft site and did a clean installation, deleted every partition and wiped out every thing. I have disabled unwanted stuff in Windows 10, especially Windows 10 privacy stuff. The game where the light is there, the graphics look far better compared to my Windows 8.1 and I really mean it. Literally amazing! I am happy with Windows 10, hopefully I will download all the patches and things will be fixed. Ill keep you guys posted with the updates.

Looks like you're well on your way to figuring it out, Prince_Of_Persia (nice name by the way). if you haven't already, it might also help to submit a ticket to the support team (See links in my signature).

I know PC gamers are usually far advanced from the average PC user, but I hope everyone is paying close attention.

The Windows free install is an upgrade, only. Once installed it consumes your previous (7, 8, 8.1) license, but, you can do a clean install after the initial install (hold that thought).

Once installed you have 30 days to revert to your previous install, if you miss that date, your license is irrevocably tied to the Win10 instance.

However, be careful as it is my understanding that choosing to do a clean install before that 30 days means the recovery files are gone.

Again, I purposefully paid for a full retail copy so I could do whatever I want with it, and that was a dual boot so I can keep both Win7 and Win10.

did that today... there is no performance increase

installed the upgrade on a clean drive

wiped it .... installed win 10 pro.... FPS are the same maybe 1 or 2 FPS decrease with the current nvidia drivers... let alone the hassle of no sound in game for cut scenes till i totally reset my sound settings to stereo 16 bit

and in fact i saw drops for downloads under win 10 that i never saw with win 7 / 64 ultimate , took a good two hours to re-config my system.. shut off all the windows 10 crap

and it still wants to upgrade my vid driver even tho i downloaded and installed the latest one ..WIN 10 = FAIL

i shut that off ..right quick

cannot install a new driver under custom settings and not include Gforce EXP software //nvidia went down hill man man

    next card will be AMD
