Thoughts on Far Cry 4 vs 2.

Having finished FC4, I am wanting to comment on how the game has changed since FC2.

    1. There is too much going on. in FC2, the player could walk around for ages with just the wind and birds to keep them company. And that was good. When you come across the crashed car with the dead bodies and no-one around, you wonder, could this be a trap? But in FC4 you are so bombarded with notifications and constant gunfights and eagle attacks. They must go through millions and millions of rounds of 7.62x39mm Chinese ammunition.

    2. Bring back the faction system. Maybe for FC5 they could implement more than one allied faction that are mostly friendly and the player chooses which to ally with at the beginning of the game. There was a touch of this with Sabal and Amita, but I want more of this in a finished game.

    3. The player is an invincible Rambo character. Once you get the grenade launcher, Predator and the Buzzsaw, you can power through a Fortress like nothing. Far Cry 2 made you much more vulnerable, especially in the hardest difficulty. Then it was more like Arma in terms of dying with one or two shots. Maybe make a game more like Far Cry 2, where the player only has a limited armory and cannot carry around unrealistic ammunition and weapon loadouts. Removing the leaving mission area notifications. Far Cry 2 did not have this and it worked very well, once you have finished the tutorial.

I don't care about the different factions but everything else you said is spot on. "+1"

What you have to remember is that Far Cry 2 had really slow vehicles on land and on water (sure they fit the setting for Africa but they were slow all the same) because of this it would take longer to get to your destination, with Far Cry 3 & 4 in the single player game you could get around a lot faster and now with the buzzer (gyrocopter) you can get to higher areas as the crow flies.

Also look at Far Cry 2 there were lots of places where you could not get out of what appeared to be shallow water and a small hillside, the game was very unforgiving in allowing us to walk up areas that looked like it should be achievable - but at the same time this kept the player feeling out of their depth / alone with less options, Far Cry 2 was much grittier and made you feel vulnerable.

Not been able to scale mountains stopped us seeing what was in the distance so it kept the player guessing where as FC3 & FC4 allow us to get to higher areas where you can familiarise yourself with the surroundings and have a better idea on where to go or the quickest route so with the newer games it's maybe all about getting from A-B the quickest route where FC2 felt more about survival.

I did like FC2 and went through it maybe 6-8 times, I loved the way weapons degraded and eventually blew up - that forced the player into some desperate times if your No.1 choice weapon became useless and you then have to travel to a store to get another gun, FC3 and FC4 are more arcadey in their style with the takedowns and yes you can run in all guns blazing with signature weapons feeling like superman but I think the game might cater for more audience with what they have done.

I am sure on the Hardest Setting the game will be more of a test, I myself don't like the way we can tag enemies and see them through walls etc, they could do a lot with it to make you feel more afraid of the challenge ahead but would it then be as popular - FC4 sold over 7 million and Far Cry 3 sold over 4.5 million (Numbr 4 is on 5 platforms)

The figure in January 2009 was that Far Cry 2 had sold 2.9 million copies.
I loved the fire in FC2 and the grass / fields, way the shadows moved around with the time of day and the way plants and trees moved - I think they could take some elements from all the games and make something really special, The water in FC4 was a little disappointing but still it was better than that water in FC2.

To be honest in FC4, I enjoyed Pagan, Environment and music. The game lack of depth, interaction with environment. I felt that I am there and just there. It lacked facial expression of AI. To be honest, AI felt cheap, whether its civilians or pagan's force. Far cry is too slow and has unnecessary animations. Like aiming falling on the ground etc. It makes the player slow. I don't mind being attacked by animals. What really bothers is that AI either acts dumb or over smart. The characters acting was not as top notch as FC3 (except Pagan). All the focused was on the environment and pagan I guess. I did like the new interactions with animals, which gave a touch of jungle warrior. But still the depth of the story and the depth of the characters was missing. I really hated to read notes everywhere, it felt like cheap way of saving on animations and story in the background. DLC is the worst thing, I had purchased FC4 thinking that I will get yetis in the game and not DLC, felt like rip of right there. Far cry 4 is a good upgrade for FC3 in some ways, especially combat disposal, etc. I really want a new game design with each new game in the series, not just upgrade. I really love this title and hope that UBI soft doesn't mess with FC 5.

Live for nothing or die for something - Rambo sometimes is smart...
.. FC4's shoot everything that moves except blue-jackets or civilians is all about its greatness.

I would prefer an intelligent game/storyline approach over monkey mania style action like swinging from one rope to the next rope and...meh!
