    IRQs are excellent.

If, like most enthusiasts.. you intend to tinker with various nforce drivers please remember that..as with previous UDP/Nforce drivers.. you MUST let Windows detect bits and reboot between uninstalling any older drivers and then installing newer ones. Not doing so will cause problems. It should go like this:

    1. Uninstall all nForce bits.
    2. Reboot.
    3. Let Windows try to find, and fail, at all the nForce stuff.
    4. Reboot.
    5. Install the new nForce drivers.
    6. Reboot.

thanks Steve. One question, I never had a problem with the standard Nforce 2 IDE controller. Do I need to switch to the SAtandard dual channel or can I leave the Nvidia one there?

Here are the results. All results are with coasties settings, 1024x768x32, excellent settings.

4.1 Cats, Nforce 2.78 (originally what I was using)

    2004-04-12 14:14:12 - il2fb
    Frames: 4497 - Time: 146031ms - Avg: 30.794 - Min: 13 - Max: 69

    4.1 cats, Nforce 3.13

    2004-04-12 15:17:07 - il2fb
    Frames: 4162 - Time: 145687ms - Avg: 28.568 - Min: 12 - Max: 60

    4.4 cats, Nforce 3.13

    2004-04-12 15:20:46 - il2fb
    Frames: 4191 - Time: 145875ms - Avg: 28.730 - Min: 12 - Max: 59

    4.2 cats, Nforce 3.13

    2004-04-12 15:31:52 - il2fb
    Frames: 4419 - Time: 145829ms - Avg: 30.302 - Min: 12 - Max: 68

Bascially I'm back where I started. I put my Open Gl settings back to where they were after every vid driver install. IL2 settings were unaffected (as would be expected) by any Mb or vid driver changes. I'm going to run Dirver cleaner 3.0 to make sure I got all the old vid drivers out. The big probelm is that my performance went down when updating the Mb drivers. I dont know of any settings I could have made that would have been overwritten with the install of the new drivers, so I'm at a loss as to what is wrong here.

driver cleaner and reinstall of 4.2s did nothing. Not sure what to do from here.

Btw, this system has been reformatted lately, has very little prgrams on it (I just use this box for gaming). Ive ran adaware, defragged, gone into ms config and the registry run section and everything is good.

Edit: I was poking around this forum, and noticed a discussion about AGP aperature size. Mine was set to 64Mb, and I changed it to 128. Average FPs dropped like .5 FPs. I also noticed some HD swapping when there was none before on Black death. Not sure what to make of this.

I am at a loss here for an explanation. I still truly believe you should be getting better FPS with that rig. Make sure you are testing with Vsynch off too. This will limit your avg while benching. Then just turn it back on after benching.

You could use another 512 of ram, But I doubt that will help your fps much. It will just smooth out some stutters.

Maybe its time to become an official nerd and try some Overclocking on the 2500+ Barton. Raing the FSB a little at a time will increase your memory bandwidth and give you better fps.

There are some very important things to consider before doing this though. If you are interested, let me know and I will give you the basics to start.

    Good Luck!

I have left my open GL AA and AF at the default settings of "application preference" previously. I now tried running AA and AF. WOW what a difference! I have felt I have always had a hard time tracking planes below me, and I think this may be partly to blame. my question is does IL2 not have this in its application? I always assumed I would be ok with leaving it at application preference. It doesnt really seem to affect FPS when i tested it out. Also, I want to be able to set different AA and AF settings for different games. I see a profile section under opengl in coasties page, but my current driver does not have that. Is there anyway to enable it?

I have no idea why you wouldnt have the Profiles. I don't use them anyway. I just keep mine on the same thing. Perhaps you have a bad install of drivers. Are you using the full driver package? Should be around 27 MB download.

Welcome to the wonderful world of AA and Aniso with ATI! That is the beauty of these cards. You can turn it up with little loss in fps. IL2 does not have application AA or AF settings, so essentially you were running with it off.

I use the full drivers. The 4.2 cats looks like this:

I noticed that the 4.4s looked like that too. Do your 4.2 or 4.4s look like that?

NO, You are not using the correct contrlo panel. That one is very old.

Go to start/control panel/add remove programs. You should see ati control panel and ati driver in there.

Uninstall the Control panel first(don't reboot)

    Uninstall the Driver(dont reboot)

Go to C: drive and delete the ATI folder in there.

Now unplug your machine from the internet.

    Now, Reboot.

Upon startup, Be patient, Cancel the 2 install wizards that windows will pop-up.

Go to the 4.2 Cats icon and double click it, reboot after it is done, it will prompt you to do so.

Upon start up, Be patient, let the drivers get completely done doing thier thing. Your screen should go black a couple times.

Close the couple boxes that pop-up and re-adjust your settings in your NEW ATI Control Panel.

This may solve some of your probslems.

    Good Luck!

That worked like a charm Man vid drivers are a pain to get unistalled/installed properly. My FPS is still about the same, but it does have the proper control panel.
